Tim Geers highlights his best bets of the day as WA racing heads back to headquarters at Ascot.

WA racing returns to headquarters today with a 10-race card at Ascot!

The meeting is jam-packed with quality, featuring a sizzling edition of the 3YO Classic.

Expect the track to favour those on speed early and even out throughout the day, with the surface rated a Good 4 and the rail out 3m.

Quite keen on the Todd Harvey pair here in this 66+ over the mile.

(2) Mr Delegator won easily over the mile at Belmont last start in a 72+ race, so he looks very well placed back in a 66+ race despite going up in weight. He was ridden with a sit last start due to the hot tempo, which he relished, but with no speed in today’s race, I’d expect he lead this at his own leisure. I expect it to be hard to make ground early so that should really suit.

(7) Avalon Bay is underrated by the market here and shouldn’t be. This horse is flying. Won very well first up and then just got into an impossible position last start when he had to go back to last from the wide gate. He clocked the second-fastest final splits of the entire meeting and he draws a much better gate today. Double figure odds is a great price.

(8) Brave Angel can launch late and is another to include at a price.

One of the more exciting contests on the day lies between (4) Kaptain Kaos and (5) Kissonallforcheeks. Plenty have made a case for Kissonallforcheeks and that’s the way the money has gone early, but I’ll be sticking with Kaptain Kaos. He just continues to handle everything that is thrown at him. He’s three from three this prep and he made his last start win look effortless, swooping home over the top of his rivals. He’s got fitness on his side and Chris Parnham has elected to ride him over Kissonallforcheeks, who maps awkwardly from barrier 8. Backing the Kaptain to make it 7 wins from 11 starts.

(1) Comfort Me has to lump the full 61kg today but I still think he can run a cheeky race here at double figure odds. He should have won first up last prep when sitting three-deep the trip and going down a nose. He then won back-to-back races in 66+ and 72+ grade. First up the prep prior to that he should have won over 1100m, so while the 1400m might be his best trip, he can still be effective over the shorter distance. Chris Parnham is a notable jockey booking fresh. Might get a better price on Betfair with punters likely to dive into Pike’s mount.

He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
