Tim Geers highlights his best bets on Belmont Sprint day in the West with his tips and betting strategy below.

WA racing continues at Belmont on Saturday, with the winter feature racing set to get underway with the Group 3 Belmont Sprint headlining a nine-race card.

It will be wet conditions with plenty of rain around in Perth. The track is currently rated a Soft 5 and the rail is out 3m.

Tim Geers has highlighted his best bets for the meeting below, including Race 4, Race 5, Race 6, Race 8 and Race 9.

First betting race of the day here.

(2) Comes A Time has had no luck this prep and is flying. Has sat three-wide the trip in his past two starts and has still run very well. Beautifully drawn in barrier 4 today, Paul Harvey goes on and should be very competitive.

(6) Devoted Star returns from a spell and she has a terrific fresh record, with three wins and a 2nd from five starts. Drawn wide so likely to get back but should be flashing home.

Very keen on the chances of (6) Born To Try here. She was very good first up from the freshen up and she got the job done over the mile last start. She steps up from 1600m to 2100m which would normally be a concern but this stable are capable of doing it. Chris Parnham sticks, draws barrier 1, goes fine on soft ground and looks the one to beat.

(3) Secret Pearl is the danger, fit now and coming off a last-start win over a similar distance at Ascot. Parnham jumps off to stick with the favourite but Pike gets on, so nothing lost there. Goes well on soft ground and will be right in the finish again.

Good race this and I’ll be keen to stick with the favourite (2) Son Son. He’s building a nice record with four wins and three placings form seven starts. Down 100m in distance which is a tiny query but he should be able to lead, dictate and be very hard to run down again.

(7) Island Missile was good first up and should improve on that effort. The stable are hitting form and he should get a good enough run in midfield from barrier 6. Will be hitting the line hard.

(4) Schoolhouse Rock is the complete blowout at $81. He’s a decent horse on his day and is undefeated second up.

The day’s feature is a good little race.

(3) Elite Street is the best horse in the race and was huge in defeat in the Roma Cup. He may well improve off that run and so long as he isn’t a mile off them from barrier 12, I think he’ll be too good. Soft ground no concern for him.

(9) Massimo had no luck whatsoever in the Roma Cup, held up literally the entire straight. He was so badly held up that they trialled him two days later! Draws the inside gate again here so will be hoping for more luck, but he has the ability to win this.

(12) Kay Cee retuns from a spell and she was subject to a huge betting plunge first up last prep. Her best would obviously see her be very competitive in a race like this.

The run of (2) Nerodio in defeat was enormous last start, posted wide throughout before being chinned on the line. Prior to that he ran consecutive placings behind the very smart Miss Conteki. Gets a soft draw today, the wet ground might be some query but on current form she rates as the one to beat.

(5) Battle Storm didn’t produce his best last prep but if he produces it here, this race is as good as over. He’s undefeated from five starts at the track and distance and has three wins from four starts on soft ground.
