Bendigo Racing Tips: Saturday, April 2nd

Billy Bestford previews a feature day of racing at Bendigo this Saturday.

bendigo racing tips

Saturday racing in Victoria heads to Bendigo for the running of the Golden Mile as well as the Bendigo Guineas on a big card this Saturday.

The track is rated a good 4 with the rail in the true position. There’s fine conditions forecast so we should see every horse get their chance today.

Billy Bestford previews every race on the card with his best bet coming up in Race 9.

Best Bet: Race 9 – (3) Corner Pocket

(9) Point Nepean was very good resuming last start from a spell when leading them up over this trip. Race fitness told late but that run will do him a world of good and gets a big drop in the weights today. Carries just 52kg today and will be in this for a very long way.

(10) Steel Skies went close in a similar race last start and is suited dropping back to 2400m where he has won twice. Will be charging late.

(2) Vardani is flying, winning two on the bounce and looks suited getting out to this trip for the first time.

(6) Miss Five Hundred next best.

(16) Stretto absolutely bolted in for the new stable last start and ran good time in doing so. Looked like he joined in at the 300 there and romped away from them. Might have found his best form now and looks a good chance to go on with it.

(15) Linas Legend is a smart horse on his day. Been a bit flat recently but a few weeks between runs will suit.

(17) Vitrivius can run a race fresh and was a winner this track/trip first time previously. They’ve thrown the blinkers on here and isn’t the worst at double figures.

(1) Shalaman started favourite on debut, running a solid enough 2nd to Letrollthedice who then went on to with the G2 Sires. That’s strong form and this horse trialled up well before the debut run. Onto a dry track now should suit and I think he goes very close.

(4) Field Of Flutes won a Cranbourne jumpout under a hold and looks a horse with plenty of upside.

(3) Don’t Change isn’t helped by the draw but I liked the way he ran through the line at a recent trial. Will have to go back but expect to see him powering home.

(5) Fighting Edge next best.

Willing to be forgiving of (7) Remarque who trialled up really well in the lead up to his fresh run. Was well backed that day but overraced and did himself no favours. He looks to get a good run here and this is the last chance I’m giving him.

(11) Gold Spark  won very well 2nd up and should be suited up to 1100m here where he is unbeaten at three runs.

(14) Duchess Of Dorset strung together a few wins last prep and she is pretty smart. Will go forward but just depends where she ends up from that gate.

(12) Scissor Step has jumped out well and is never far away from the placings.

(3) Sirileo Miss was unwanted in betting fresh and ran accordingly. There was a slow recovery rate and nothing really went to plan for her. She’s ready to hit back now 2nd up and is a winner on the track.

(2) Foxy Frida rarely puts in a poor one and races well fresh. Form around her last prep is very strong and she’s right in this.

(6) La Chevalee was solid first up when finishing 3rd behind The Garden. Really did best work late there and was one of the few to actually make up ground in the race. Ready now.

(10) Perfect World bolted in first up last prep and was last seen finishing 3rd in a group 3. If she’s wound up enough then she can give this a shake.

(8) Princeton Award looks ready for this trip now after making up plenty of ground last start over 1800m. Should have finished closer to Pounding two back and I think he’s very well suited today.

(2) The Cunning Fox was solid enough in the Alistair Clark last start and has been in good form this prep. This is easier than the last couple races he has had and should have no issues running out the trip.

(5) Celestial Fury showed plenty of improvement first up having first run as a gelding. That seems to have switched his mind back on the job and he can go close here.

(9) Figo The Great is the best value chance for mine and maps for every favour in the run. He looks ready for 2200m.

(10) Cardigan Queen should be winning this with even luck. Certainty beat last time out when tight for room at key stage in the straight. Flashed home to just miss and should be cherry ripe to peak now. Nearly ran down Barb Raider two back. Draws wide which gives her plenty of room to wind up.

Don’t want to be losing on (1) Chartres and he would have gone close to winning fresh if he hadn’t clipped heels in the straight. Undefeated from two 2nd up runs and looks to have come back in top order.

(5) Sharp Response lost the race last week on protest but that was a big effort, running on from out wide. Solid enough in Aus Guineas two back and juts needs to handle dropping to 1400m. He is clearly going very well on the quick backup.

(3) Gundec bolted in fresh over 1200m and is even better suited now up to this trip. No doubt he’s better over further but this is well within reach.

(4) Mars Mission is due some luck and I still think he’s pretty smart. If he can get the gaps I think his best is plenty good enough for this race.

(1) I Am Superman was enormous last start at WFA level when doing a mountain of work when flying along up front – he stuck on incredibly well all things considering. This is much easier and has had a nice tick over trial since that run. Dry conditions to suit today and has drawn well.

(7) Crosshaven looks a big price to my eye. He’s been very good this prep without winning and looks suited getting up to the mile with a couple of runs under the belt. He’ll charge across to lead and will be in it for a long way.

Hard to miss the run of (14) Cherry Tortoni last time out, flying home from the back to just miss Gentleman Roy. He only needs to re create that performance to go close here. Barrier 18 means he will be a fair way off them again.

(3) Zayydani isn’t the worst and is genuine. Only a length off Duais last prep – that form looks good now!

(3) Corner Pocket is a super honest horse and knows how to find the line. It took Zaaki and Inspirational girl to put a stop to his winning streak last start while back to 1400m is a big tick for mine. He goes forward and gets a nice run here today with a claim on his back. Will be extremely tough to run down.

(9) Poland drops out of the G1 Newmarket and was solid enough there. Full of fitness now and back to benchmark level is going to suit him.

(12) Regardsmaree chances have been hurt by the barrier but still think he is a massive chance. He is a much better 2nd up horse and the fresh run was a beauty.

(14) Adelaide Ace can usually run a race fresh and gets in nice and light from a good draw.

Tip: (3) Corner Pocket - $3.10 at Neds

Betting Strategy: 2.5u WIN Corner Pocket

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
