Bunbury Racing Tips: Wednesday, December 2nd

Midweek racing in the West heads back to Bunbury this week and Tim Geers has his preview and tips for all eight races below.

Bunbury-Racing

Midweek racing in the West heads back to Bunbury this week as the Ascot track recovers ahead of Kingston Town Classic day this Saturday!

We saw an on-pace, on-rails advantage here at Bunbury last Wednesday when the rail was out 3m, so it will be interesting to see how it plays with the rail moving out to the 6m position today.

Best Bet: Race 6 – (2) Dew West

This is one of the best midweek races you’re likely to come across, with a number of highly promising types engaged in the small field.

(5) Sentimental Hero looks the horse to beat but at $1.65 this becomes a no-bet race. He’s only had one career start, which was a dominant win at Northam. On that occasion, he trounced No Surrender by 3.75L, who then came out and won two of his next three starts. Sunset Cruise was back in 3rd and we saw that horse run here last week and win easily, so the form out of his win at Northam obviously looks exceptionally strong. He’s had a break between runs and has been back to the trials, but if he turns up in similar form, he’ll be awfully hard to beat.

(3) Son Son won here on debut and then lined up in town, where he was enormous in defeat. He was second last and under the stick about 600m from home but charged home the final furlong to run 2nd. He draws barrier 1 and the apprentice goes on so we may see him ridden more positive today. I think he’s a pretty talented horse.

(4) Nobel Laurence is another very talented type. He flew home on debut in a good form race at Ascot, beaten less than a length by Smashing and Alpha And Omega. He then came here to Bunbury and trotted in after settling well back in the field. Whether he can go with Sentimental Hero from back there is the query but he looks to have a big motor.

(2) Ghost Who Walks next best, which tells you how good the race is given he won two starts ago and then ran 2nd last start.

Tip: (5) Sentimental Hero $1.65 Ladbrokes

(9) Testing Love has certainly been testing for punters after running 2nd in both career starts, jumping $2.60 on debut before going down at $1.65 last start. The form out of those races has been good though, with Sheza Chalmer winning easily again last week. This looks to be her race with Pike on board for the first time, but at $1.24 you can leave me out.

Very happy to oppose (3) Comealilbitcloser here, who has had plenty of chances but keeps running 2nd. He will run well again but at $3.30 I’m happy to bet around him.

(4) Crescent City goes on top on debut for Pike and Team Williams, who will probably win the first two races as well. He’s bred by Fiorente so the 1400m on debut should be no issue and he draws well in barrier 5.

His main danger looks to be (7) Arracity, who has had three starts and has had no luck in any of them. He should have won by now. First up he was blocked and lost all momentum in the straight; then at his second start he ran the best final 400m of the meeting in defeat, and last start he sat three-wide the trip and was beaten just over a length. He draws wide again and if he’s giving Crescent City a start, it may prove too much, but with even luck he will give this a huge shake.

Pretty simple play here – back Crescent City and save on Arracity. Very confident the resuult goes to one of them.

Tip: (4) Crescent City $2.80 TAB

Betting strategy: 3.25 units WIN Crescent City, 1.75 unit WIN Arracity

Competitive race. (8) Miss Aligned gets her chance once again. She played up pre-race first up here and then had to work her way clear in the straight, but she finished strongly and with even luck today, she should be going close once again.

(7) World Ruler is one of just two runners for the Pearce stable today and whenever they bring runners here to Bunbury, you have to take note. Drawn well and Azzopardi goes on for his debut so I expect him to run well at double figure odds. Whether he needs a touch longer is the query.

(3) Ragtime Band might just improve as a gelding today, coming off just one trial. He showed very little in his first prep but with the good draw and the gelding operation, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him run well at $26.

(2) Material Witness likely to be ridden more positively today and was well backed on debut at Northam. Respect.

(1) The Anvil not hopeless first up.

Tip: (8) Miss Aligned $3.80 Ladbrokes

Betting strategy: 1 unit WIN Miss Aligned, 0.5 units WIN World Ruler, 0.25 units WIN Ragtime Band

(5) Keeper’s Dream can be the big improver here. Ran OK first up over 1300m but I expect big improvement with a sharp step up in trip today and this is Lindsey Smith’s only runner for the day. Brad Rawiller is booked to ride and at $8.00 must be included.

(10) Night Session had little luck last start when beaten as favourite over a similar distance here at Bunbury. Pike rode her that day and was held up for clear running in the straight, and when she got clear she hit the line well. Harvey back on board today and with even luck she goes close.

(1) The Roan Ranger is hard to beat and should go close again.

Tip: (5) Keeper’s Dream $8.00 Bet365

(2) Dew West is ready to win third up today with Pike back in the saddle. Pike’s ridden her in all three career wins and gets back aboard for the first time this prep. Drawn wide in 11 but may be able to roll forward as that’s how she’s won previously.

(5) Angelique’s Fame is Michael Lane’s only runner of the day and he has a sensational strike rate here at Bunbury. This mare was good last start, coming from a long way back in the field to run 2nd to smart conveyance Beret. Her only start at this track and distance was a win and she should go well at $7.00.

(6) Indigo Wild next best at each way odds.

(7) Showaddywaddy is running out of chances and looks short enough at $3.00 but she’s Dan Morton’s only runner of the day and Chris Parnham jumps on for the first time this prep, replacing Chloe Azzopardi. He piloted her to her sole career win, which came at this track, so tipping she can notch up her second win today.

(8) Casa Rosada didn’t get much luck late in the race last start at big odds. I had something on her that day and thought her run was full of merit, so in an open race she can go well with the aid of a good draw.

(5) Our D’Amour and (1) Babytino have obvious claims.

Very open race to finish off the day. (2) Diablerie comes off a last-start win at Albany and Pike goes on for trainer Summer Dickson, which is a positive lead. He’s never won at this distance though and does jump from 1100m to 1400m which the concern. He’s got an outstanding record at this track but all four wins here came in his first ever prep, and it’s been about 3.5 years since then.

(4) Corporate Larikin can be thrown in at enormous odds. He always needs his first two runs back but tends to improve third up.

(6) Heart Of Couer is another at blowout odds to include. He ran third last at his first run back but he actually ran home in a very similar final 600, 400m and 200m to the winner on a day where it was impossible to make ground. Has two wins from four starts when second up and can settle closer from the gate today.

(7) Lickety Split ran 2nd to Diablerie first up but he worked home well and will be much better suited to the step up to 1400m today, while Diablerie has to be a query. Drawn well at his second run for the new stable and looks a chance at $10.

(9) Specialism not hopeless, while (12) Volpe is an interesting runner on stable debut for Ray Malpass.

Tricky race but I’ll be playing small on Heart Of Couer, Lickety Split and Volpe.

Tip: (7) Lickety Split $10 Sportsbet

Betting strategy: 0.5 units WIN Lickety Split, 0.25 units WIN Heart Of Couer, 0.25 units WIN Volpe

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
