Wednesday night racing takes place at Happy Valley in Hong Kong and there’s three races on a competitive card that stand out.

Only betting small as to not undo the good day’s work at Bunbury, but we’ll be betting in Race 4, Race 6 and Race 8.

I concede (1) Pegasus Glory is the horse to beat here – he’s done little wrong in his three career starts but he was beaten last start with this weight and the wide draw tonight doesn’t make it any easier.

I’ll be on (7) Little Player who started $6 on debut and ran OK for 4th, beaten 3.3L at Sha Tin. He steps up to 1200m tonight and draws well for Karis Teetan so should be in the finish.

The other runner I’m interested in is the Fownes/Moreira runner (6) Champ Patrol. This stable/jockey combo is airborne and it’s not often they go a meeting without a winner. Fownes had 49 winners for the whole of last season but has already notched up 30 in the first three months of this season. This is his only runner of the night which Moreira rides and he replaces an apprentice so third up from a spell, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him run well at each way odds.

Competitive race here. (1) Gentle Breeze returns to his pet track and distance. He’s got five wins over the Happy Valley 1000m and he drops back into suitable class tonight with an apprentice going on. He appeals at each way odds.

All eyes will be on (2) Propice who has his first start in Australia, having previously raced as Ilovemyself in Australia. It’s not easy to win at the top of class 3 on Hong Kong debut, but this stable is flying and we saw them produce Enrich Delight (formerly Chenier) to win first up last weekend. Whether 1000m is too short for him is another query but at $5.50 he’s worth having something on.

(11) Wild West Wing is over the odds at $12.

Another very open race to round things out but the price of (4) Compassion Spirit is over the odds. He won here last start to take his record at the track and distance to three wins from four starts. He carries more weight tonight but he draws well in barrier 5 and can give this a shake at each way odds.

He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne.
