Narrowed this race down to two runners and I have gone with the fitness edge over one returning from a break. (8) Screebe was no match on debut behind the promising Belieber but it was the manner that she accelerated through the corner which impressed me. Although she went down 3 lengths in second, she put the rest of the field away by 5.5 lengths and that was without being full ridden out to the line. I am not overly worried about the draw as there is enough speed on the inside to guide her into the race. She will come on from that debut and do onto bigger things.
(1) Head Legislator is coming back a gelding and just by watching his only trial coming in, you can see the improvement. Just wondering if it might be a touch too much first-up but follow him after this first-up run regardless.
(5) Unrelenting is back to provincials has a chance to improve.
(6) Correlate next best.

(3) Free State goes on top here with superior form, stepping back to provincial level for the first time. Coming back off a short break, he has had two nice trials in preparation for this which should see him forward enough to make his presence known. His two runs last preparation were good without being great, finishing 3.3 lengths off Sahra at Kembla Grange but comfortably beating the rest of the opposition by 4 lengths. He was then no match for Smart Image and Beyliks at Warwick Farm, but still beat home Centimental and Group 3 placed Marsannay. Both runs were on a soft 6 and I am convinced he will be much better on top of the ground.
(4) Mendooran will appreciate the step up in distance and was coming nicely last start. Just needs to step with them to improve his run.
(2) Pumbaa Rua will improve off his first-up run, peaked late there so should improve nicely.
(10) Military Mama next best.

Going to take on the favourite here with a bit of confidence. (5) Private Eye is returning after two trials where he was quietly ridden in the first and in the second he was taken back from a wide barrier despite starting with them and whilst the front group took off, he just got pushed along before being softly ridden out to the line. He will appreciate a firmer track and the inside barrier as Brenton Avdulla puts him in a nice position to attack on the bend. I believe he is less risk for more gain.
(1) Rejinsky is the short favourite and has to carry 61kg from the wide barrier. He will be thereabouts.
(2) Dawn Too Good will push forward and make it a contest, not sure he has it first-up though.
(4) Tapiconic next best.

Playing two ways here because I do not think anything in this race is a good thing. (5) Noble Cause is going to be my default on topper here from a nice draw. I am willing to forgive last start as it was stated in the stewards report that the horse didn’t focus with the earmuffs on and that they should be removed next start. They have been removed and from barrier 3, Mikayla Weir should be able to put him in a prime position behind the speed without doing too much work. All of his best runs have come with him on the speed and before the poor run last start, he easily beat home Sagacious, who would be short price here. Worth an each way play.
(1) Ruddock is the other I am playing as I am weary about how Canterbury played the night he won. I don’t overly like the jockey change and a bad barrier but if he is as classy as I think he is, he should be thereabouts.
(8) Salamangkera beat home out pick last start and can put in a good race with Dylan Gibbons aboard. For the exotics.
(2) Castlecomer next best.

Another race where I will be playing two as the favourite has a few things to overcome. (6) Thinking Cap is nice odds to have a crack as she gets a few of the same conditions as last start and has a small freshen up between her runs. She followed the rail in her first-up run at this track and distance and was produced at the right time to ease to victory over Glowing Red who impressively won next start and Ayemgee who placed at Canterbury. Drawn the inside gate, I expect Tim Clark to take a similar route to last start and produce this mare at the right time in the straight. She is over the odds.
(9) Reverse is the logical danger and had she drawn a gate; she would be odds-on. Has a bit to overcome and will be flying late, but will it be too late?
(4) Ready To Soar is going for three on the trot, will be leading a long way.
(7) Testing Times next best.

Gone with Josh Parr’s only ride of the day in (3) New Tycoon here. He will stalk the leader and favourite (8) Knight the entire way and be there to strike if he makes any errors. Two back at this track and distance he spanked his rivals before heading into Rosehill where he was very brave, going down by 0.4 lengths behind Come Along. I think that run sets him up nicely for this race and I reckon they would have had this race in the back of their minds after his run two back. Good way to finish the day.
(8) Knight over did it last start and there isn’t any gear changes to help it over-racing, so I would rather back something else than have it at that quote. Won’t be surprised to see it win.
(10) Joigny will be flying late, especially if the leaders over-do it. Perfect for Quaddie and exotics.
(4) Occupy next best.
