Midweek racing in the West heads to Bunbury for a seven-race card on Wednesday afternoon.

Just 16 runners make up the first four races, so it appears a very thin card on paper, but Tim Geers is keen to play in the final two events.

(8) Rebel Heart pulled off a mini plunge for us first up when she was backed into$2.90 after opening $6.50. Everything lined up for her to go well that day and I think she can back that up again today as this isn’t an overly deep race. It’s more competitive than the one she contested first up but she should improve with that run under the belt and the rise to 1700m should also suit. Chris Parnham keeps the ride and draws well in barrier 4 so she should get her chance.

(1) Float Our Boat comes off a first up win at Pinjarra and draws the inside. Looks the main danger.

He doesn’t win out of turn but I think (9) Twentythree Red can run a decent race today. He’s only won three of his 38 starts so it’s hard to be confident, but he tends to go well second up from a spell. He’s never placed from six starts when first up but he’s had four top-two finishes from five starts when second up. He was beaten a touch over 3L first up at Ascot when blocked the entire straight, so hopefully he gets a bit more luck today. He won second up last prep when leading all the way so I’d love to see them be positive out of the gates today, especially as Bunbury has had a distinct on-pace advantage this season. At $14/$4.00 he’s certainly not the worst bet in the race.

Tim Geers

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
