Bunbury Racing Tips: Wednesday, November 25th

(8) Dark Lass was heavily supported on debut from $10 into $5.50, but you can completely forget she went around as she ran up backsides the entire straight. The margin says 7L but you just need one look at the replay to see she had no chance at all. Ryan Hill rode her that day but he’s replaced by William Pike here. The filly steps up to the mile now and with the ability to wind up in clear air, she should take some beating.

(5) Baranova also ran that day in a different 1400m race and was narrowly beaten. She then went to town last start and ran well again. Third up and up to the mile, she looks well-placed.

(1) Comealilbitcloser is knocking on the door with two 2^nd placings here at Bunbury in his past two starts. He actually finished ahead of Baranova two starts back but I think Baranova was the better run.

Of those in the market, I think (4) Sunset Cruise is well and truly short enough despite the big drop back in grade and the blinkers going on for the first time. Happy to be against.

(4) Long May You Run finds a very winnable race today. He trialled well leading into his debut, where he bumped into Chantorque – a filly that has now won four of her five starts, including last weekend’s Placid Ark Stakes. He started $3.20 against her, before failing at his second start. He resumes with one trial under the belt and the blinkers go on for the first time. If he brings his best, he should prove too good.

(8) Jessisbest had no luck on debut but bounced back with a good effort last start when 2^nd at Ascot. She drops back to the 1000m today but she’s drawn well and looks the danger to the favourite.

(1) City Centre had no luck at all in her first couple of starts last preparation. She won’t have that issue from barrier 1 today and she should be more than competitive.

Bit of a gross 2000m event here, but I’m tipping the Adam Durrant-trained (3) Frequent Friar to be spot on for the step up in distance third up from a spell today. He was only narrowly beaten at the same stage last prep when he stepped up to this distance and this really is a poor field, so expect him to be hard to beat.

(9) Special Picture ran 2^nd two starts ago but was well beaten last time out. That was at Ascot and he had to go back to the inside halfway down the straight, which probably didn’t suit. Pike goes on today and from barrier 8 he’ll be allowed to wind up out wide so he can improve, though his form is sketchy.

(2) Nick Of Time draws the inside and has placed in three of his past four so has to be included.

This could be the best bet anywhere in Australia today and the $1.70 that is still available looks a complete gift. This should be about $1.40. (3) Iron Sharp ran 2^nd first up at Northam behind Life For A Life, with Western Empire back in 3^rd. He then ran 2^nd to No Surrender and Ghobella, who then came out and won her next start. Iron Sharp sat three-wide the trip in that race, so with even luck today she looks just about unbeatable.

(6) Reguardless and (9) Ishinca View come out of the same trial. If anything, Ishinca View probably went to the line a touch the better, but Reguardless was still strong and did have to travel into it wider out.

Pretty keen on the two debutants here, who represent two strong stables which both have strong records here at Bunbury.

(8) Black Venture has trialled well for the Pearce’s, with two wins and a 2^nd from three outings. She had a couple months off leading into her most recent trial, but she went nicely for Joe Azzopardi, who stays aboard for her raceday debut. Drawn well and should be very hard to beat.

The danger looks to be (9) Shooting Shirocco for Team Williams and William Pike. She’s a four-year-old mare having her first start, with five trials leading into this race today. Her first two trials were in September/October last year, with her third one at the start of this year, and her two most recent outings more recently. So clearly she’s had some issues and has taken some time to come good, but her recent trials have been better and you always have to respect Williams/Pike.

(3) Bentley Beau is another on debut that has trialled well and can be included at double figure odds.

Lindsey Smith brings one runner to Bunbury today and it’s (6) The Thunderess with Carleen Hefel booked to ride. She rode a treble here at Bunbury on Sunday. This mare resumed with a dominant win first up last prep at Northam, running the fastest final 400m of the meeting, eased up to score by nearly 3L. If she reproduces something like that, she will go very close here at each way odds.

(8) Sheeza Chalmer had no luck in defeat on debut before breaking through nicely last start. On what she’s showed, she looks the horse to beat and should be very competitive.

(2) Balladeer and (5) Fair Justice are another two runners that won easily first up last prep so respect them at each way odds.

(4) Jakestar gets the senior rider on replacing the apprentices which have ridden him in his first two starts this prep, but he just always seems to find one or two too good.

Very tough race. (1) Lyle’s Choice is flying, winning his past two starts here at this track and distance, and if he can negotiate a wide draw, he should be competitive once again at each way odds.

(11) Casa Rosada can be included at huge odds. She ran 3^rd first up in town and then just didn’t get things to suit last start. She won here at Bunbury last prep so she could outrun his price.

(3) She’s Idyll looks ready to go very close third up from a spell. She improved from her first up run to her second up run, so she looks set to peak.

(10) Mightiness bolted in here on Melbourne Cup day but failed in town last start. Pike goes back on and he gets up to the mile now so don’t be surprised to see him improve.

Pretty keen to have a good stab at (3) Tradensia here with $5.50/$2.25. Michael Lane has two runners for the day at Bunbury and they both line up here. He has about a 37% strike rate at the track and Kyra Yuill rides at about 28% for him. This horse looks set to run a big race first up given he tackles the 1400m straight away and they elect not to claim despite carrying 60kg. She’s undefeated at this distance and her only start here over 1400m was a win. All signs point to a big run fresh.

(3) Kitgum has had three starts here at the track and distance for a win and two 2nds. He comes here after running 3^rd in his first two starts this prep and the form behind Home In Five looks very good. He draws to get a gun run and he should run very well.

(4) On Red Alert was a last-start winner and should go well, as can (9) Marlize.
