Canterbury Racing Tips: Friday, January 28th

Billy Bestford is keen to bet into three races tonight at Canterbury

CanterburyRaceCourse

It’s another Friday Night under lights at Canterbury and there’s a good eight race card to get stuck into.

The track is rated a good 4 with the rail out 6 metres.

Billy Bestford has done the form and is betting into three races tonight. Find his tips in Race 2, Race 3 & Race 7.

I think the favourite here is way too short and I’ll be backing a couple to beat it.

Can’t let (8) Super Vogue go around here at the price considering I was quite keen on debut at $4. Trialled like a jet leading into that run but just never looked likely on race day. Willing to forgive considering the market liked him and he can win if he brings some of what we saw in the trials.

(3) Nickelback started an even money favourite on debut on a heavy track. Didn’t have much luck there and I think it’s probably worth forgiving there. Dry track should suit and can have something on him at a double figure price.

(1) Solvere looks ready to peak having third start in a good debut prep. Has been building nicely with each run and stepping to this trip now might be the key. If he can have any luck from the wide gate then he will take some running down.

(4) California Surreal has been beaten by a few smart ones in his career so far and trialled up nicely leading into this. Will get the gun run from gate 2 and no doubt looks hard to beat but not for me at the price.

Tip: (3) Nickelback - $14 at TAB

Value: (8) Super Vogue - $41/$13 at TopSport

Think (3) Spitfire is ready to win now and is looking very close to breaking through. Rising to 1550m at this stage looks suitable and he was really strong through the line last start on a heavy track. Will enjoy getting back onto dry ground and I think he will go very close.

(6) Pretes gets a nice drop in the weights following a solid debut and also gets the key booking of Jmac for the first time. Looks a horse with a heap of upside and maps for a nice run just off the pace.

(4) Tailoring is next best.

Looking forward to seeing (7) Way To The Stars take the next step up in grade here after he demolished a 64 field first up. Looks an extremely exciting horse for the stable and would expect him to be forward again and tough to run down. He has plenty of upside and Canterbury should suit the way he races.

(6) Patino Ruby isn’t the worst here and usually does best racing when fresh. Was last seen in the Kosciusko finishing a few lengths off the winner and I think he will be suited here tonight. Can run a hole.

(2) Able Willie is another up and comer who looks to have some untapped ability. Bolted in first up last prep and looks ready to go again here.

(4) Sky Command can bounce back dropping to this trip where he has a great record. Jmac jumps on and there were excuses last start. Will see every favour up on speed from the low draw.

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
