I think (2) Huguenot is a good chance of knocking off the favourite. He had one run in his first campaign and ran 3^rd in a good maiden, beaten by Vespertine and Siren Rock, with both of those, especially the former, progressing onto some handy 3yo Saturday races. He’s won a jumpout here on his home track and looks ready to go.

(6) Rumbled Again was good on debut outside the leader and should be improved from that. Draws 1 here and will be hard to beat.

Very keen on (8) Divine Diosa who has been ticking along very nicely for something easier and does drop heavily in grade tonight. She’s been hitting the line well at all starts this prep, and was only 3.5L off Steinem in group 3 company in SA last start. They seem intent on riding her with cover despite her having led in the past, but I don’t think it’ll matter tonight. Gets in well at the weights, 1800m back to 1600m looks fine and I think she’ll be too good.

(2) Chequerboard does look the obvious, the 3yo filly. Her last four starts over this distance range have all been very good. She stuck on very well in a fast race at Flemington behind Liquero, then ran 2^nd to Hela, then bolted in with the Tasmanian Oaks, and again stuck on well in the Adrian Knox last start, 4.5L off Duais and Bargain carrying top weight. She’s got 59.5kg here but maps beautifully and could just be a better horse than these, half of which are 3200m jumpers.

(9) Queen Adele started $16 to the favourite’s $1.55 in the Tasmanian Oaks and was beaten fair and square. She gets a 3kg weight swing but now the prices are $2.65 vs $4.80 which seems absurd. Queen Adele also draws wide and will be giving Chequerboard a head start.

Trent Crebbin

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
