Eagle Farm Racing Tips: Saturday, May 14th

Tim Geers previews all nine races at Eagle Farm for Group 1 Doomben 10,000 day.

vegaone-eaglefarm

Group 1 racing in Brisbane on Saturday with the Doomben 10,000 headlining a nine-race card at Eagle Farm.

The wet weather has caused the change in venue, with Eagle Farm handling the rain a whole lot better than Doomben.

The track is currently rated a Soft 6 with the rail out 7m.

Tim Geers has previewed every race on the card, along with a runner-by-runner look at the Group 1.

Having something on two horses here who’s stats jump off the page.

(2) Ruby July is a perfect 6/6 at the 1000m distance and drops back to the pet trip after failing over 1200m on a heavy deck at Doomben last start. She won first up here at Eagle Farm and gets Ryan Maloney aboard today which is a positive jockey booking. Surprised we are getting $19.

(3) Tara Jasmine has had a stable switch from country NSW to the Hoysted/O’Dea camp in Queensland. She’s undefeated from three starts when first up from a spell and looks primed for a big debut run for the new camp.

Tip: (3) Tara Jasmine $6.50 Ladbrokes

Value: (2) Ruby July $19 Bet365

Not interested in betting here.

(5) Alnaseem is the most intriguing runner, making her Australian debut after previously racing in the UK and America. Typically improves second up but she’s had three trials in readiness for her first up run here so might be tuned up.

(2) Bigboyroy comes here third up and steps up to the mile with James McDonald booked for Chris Waller. If the track is soft or better, he should improve significantly and probably looms as the horse to beat.

(8) Diamil has struggled having got so far back in his previous two starts but Jamie Kah goes on here from a good draw and could settle handier.

Tip: (5) Alnaseem $5.60 BoomBet

Three Waller runners in a 2100m race. Hard to know which one is set to win.

I think (5) Djukon has the best platform to win here, with two sound runs over the mile and now stepping up to 2100m third up. Beaten 2L first up and then a length last start by Kukeracha, who then came out and ran 3rd to Zaaki.

(1) Yonkers ran 6th in the Australian Cup two starts ago before failing to handle the bog track last start. He’s seven weeks between runs which is a small query but he’d be hard to beat on his Australian Cup run.

(4) Our Intrigue improved last start and now gets to 2100m third up but not sure that run last start was still all that good.

Tip: (5) Djukon $5.50 TAB

Looks a great race for (10) Startantes who was super first up over 1200m in the Victory Stakes. She has two wins from three starts when second up so she should take improvement from that run and provided they can run on, she looks very hard to beat.

(8) El Vencedor is an interesting runner on Australian debut after winning his past two in New Zealand over this distance. James McDonald is a notable jockey booking.

(5) Minsk Moment returned to form here last start after bumping into the likes of Mazu at his first two starts this prep. That form looks reasonable given Mazu is favourite for the Group 1 later on the card.

Big field of two-year-old’s preparing for the JJ Atkins here.

(3) Capital Tower is unbeaten in three starts. He resumed from a spell to win the 2YO Jewel Prelude at Toowoomba and now comes 10 weeks into the Champagne Classic. All three starts have been on soft ground and he comes up with a good draw here. Looks the obvious starting point.

(12) Count Da Beans started $1.60 on debut at Grafton and won by a space. That was on a heavy 8 so the margin may have been flattering due to the conditions, but he may also just be very good.

(13) Exo Lady resumed with a good win to take her record to four wins from five starts. Her only defeat came on soft ground where the rider stated she didn’t handle the conditions, so if it was to be a soft track that would be a concern.

(10) Slipper Island and (11) Dimaggio Joe are two Kiwis for the Tony Pike stable that are both lightly-raced and get to the 1400m for the first time.

Tip: (3) Capital Tower $4.00 Moneyball

(1) Babylon Berlin has missed a place just once from 15 starts in New Zealand. Goes very well fresh and has a terrific record at the distance so with James McDonald booked, should go very well here. Query is carrying 59kg and giving 3.5kg-5kg to every other horse.

(7) Juan Diva returned with an easy win first up at Caulfield. That was her first win fresh and she has two wins when second up from a spell so theoretically she should improve today.

(10) Centrefire won well on the heavy ground at Doomben first up and brings a good second up record. Has three wins at this track and distance so must be included.

(12) Our Bellagio Miss is way over the odds at $61. She showed a return to form first up before starting $5.50 in the Hawkesbury Rush last start. She finished second-last but pulled up with cardiac arrhythmia. Forgive that run and she’s much better than a $61 chance.

(14) Verona relished the step up to 2000m in the Frank Packer Plate in Sydney last start. That was just her second start in Australia and with another month under her belt in the care of Maher/Eustace, she probably can improve again here.

(1) Character was the winner of the Tulloch Stakes a few starts ago, where he beat Regal Lion who ran 3rd in the NZ Derby. He failed in the Derby but bounced back with victory when dropped back to 1600m of the Queensland Guineas last start. Can win again.

(5) Pinarello is undefeated at this distance back in New Zealand.

A few teases at the top of the market to close out the card here.

(1) No Nay Never is flying since switching stables but just can’t crack it for a win. He’s run 2nd at his past three starts, beaten 0.4L, 0.2L and 0.2L. Has to carry 61kg from barrier 11 here but he’ll be right in the finish again.

(12) Palladas was brave first up sitting three-wide the trip when beaten 2.4L. This is a harder race but his best runs have all been at this distance and he draws well.

(15) Aidensfield has run nine placings in her past 11 starts, but hasn’t won any of them. Draws well but rolls forward and will be in it for a long time. Might just find one or two too good again.

(4) Acquitted was good on Australian debut.

Tip: (12) Palladas $4.60 PlayUp
