Looks a very tricky race to start off the card and will be waiting for later races to get involved.

Looks a good bet here (5) Speedy Optimist. He’s run 3^rd in his two starts back from a spell and he draws ideally in barrier 3. Purton sticks with him and I suppose the only query is the step up to 1200m, but he looks the one to beat.

(4) Ka Fortune has run 2^nd in both starts this prep and was ridden by Purton last start, but Purton sticks with Speedy Optimist tonight, which may have been a prior booking. Draws well in barrier 4 and looks well-placed.

(1) Noble Desire has previously underperformed here at the Valley but he’s drawn the perfect gate in 1 and drops back in class tonight so can turn that around.

(5) Incanto Prepared is in very good form and draws the right gate to win again tonight. He won three starts back, then had no luck two starts ago and flashed home to be beaten narrowly last time out. Moreira stays on tonight and he looks the one to beat.

(1) Zhan Jiang Rocks has Purton staying aboard and draws much better in 6 than he did last start in 11. Doesn’t win out of turn but should be very competitive.

(3) Charity Wings draws the inside and goes well over this track and distance and should get every chance to run a race.

(4) Fast Pace won last start and represents the flying Casper Fownes stable. You can’t discount anything from this stable at the moment.

Two horses at good odds I’ll be backing here. (1) Happy Good Guys drops back in grade tonight and the wide draw in 9 isn’t a bad result as inside draws over 1000m on this track and distance isn’t always a good thing. Three starts ago he ran 2^nd over track and distance in this class so I think he can go close tonight at each way odds.

The other I’ll be on is the John Size runner (9) Hey Pal who ran 3^rd over 1200m at Sha Tin first up. Back to the 1000m tonight and drawn wide in barrier 12 but that’s actually the barrier with the highest strike rate over this track and distance with the rail in this position. He’s an $18 chance.

Only two horses I’m keen on here but it is a very open race. (3) Royal Racer absolutely bolted in last start over this track and distance and the big positive is Moreira landing the ride in the random allocation, as he rode the horse last start. He’s been penalised 4kg for his win but this stable is flying and when Moreira rides for them, they often win.

(5) Fearless Fire draws the inside gate and gets Purton on with the random allocation. He won two starts back and then ran 3^rd last start so at each way odds, he appeals as a decent bet.

Competitive race.

(2) Here Comes Ted draws wide in 11 but that might not stop him. He’s got a terrific record at the track and distance and he didn’t necessarily have things go his way last start. He will be flooding home from the back of the field.

(10) Wins All also draws awkwardly in barrier 10 but he’s been in good form his past three starts. He won dominantly first up in easier class, then didn’t have much luck second up, and then ran 2^nd last start. At $9.50 he’s a decent price in a race like this.

(7) Inno Legend looks the horse to beat with Purton on from the good draw.

The barrier draw tips this in the favour of (1) Real Bizzy who has run four consecutive placings. He’s had his chances but barrier 1 is a big plus here and he once again gets his chance to win again.

(9) Hall Of Champ is always a horse I’ve had time for and he’s returned in great order this prep, running 2^nd first up before winning last start. She’s up in grade tonight but drops in weight and if he gets a decent run from the gate, he can be competitive in this grade at each way odds.

(8) Gift Of Lifeline gets a positive jockey change tonight and draws ideally so is another at a decent price at $8.00.

(12) Harmony N Blessed should be winning this after a dominant debut win at Sha Tin. He rises in grade tonight but he looks well up to the task so hopefully Holly Doyle can give him a good ride from barrier 6 and he should be too good for this lot.

(2) Grateful Heart has won his past two starts and the inside draw gives him his chance to make it a hattrick. He goes up in the ratings and weights again but barrier 1 is often advantageous over this track and distance.

(7) Mehboob is one to include at $23. He had no luck last start and still ran well to not be beaten far. With a softer run in transit tonight expect him to be in the mix.

(11) Lucky Quality next best.

(4) Green Luck draws the extreme outside which really isn’t ideal but he went very close last start and he’s undefeated third up from a spell so with the Fownes/Moreira combination teaming up once again, he looks hard to beat if he gets any luck.

(12) Flying Quest carries bottom weight and draws barrier 2, which has had four winners from 11 runners over this track and distance this season. He can run a good race at each way odds.
