It has been over a year since this gelding last raced, but he will have his first start in Australia today for the Maher and Eustace stable. (2) Saint of Katowice heads into his debut Australian run on the back of two trials and he looks set to make an impact first-up. In his first trial, he was ridden quietly and not asked to do a lot before really stretching him out in the second trial a fortnight after, where he really went with Head Legislator, who has since performed well at a mid-week meeting. He has drawn to sit wherever he please and gets the in-form Christian Reith aboard. I am predicting they sit handy with him before making his move on the turn.

This is actually quite a narrow race and even though the market has it between four horses, I truly believe it is between two. I have gone with (2) That’s Better due to his experience and the way he maps. Although the form hasn’t stood up too well from his previous start, the time run was quick and if it is run that quick again, they won’t catch him. He will no doubt lead from barrier 5 and being Josh Parr’s second career ride on him, I expect a better ride than last start which makes him even more dangerous. If he gets any cheap sectionals, he will be value at the price.

I loved the debut run of this Zoustar gelding and he will come on a fair bit from the run. (2) Nelspruit carried 59kg on debut to make light work of his opposition at this track over the 1100m by 1.5 lengths. The thing that impressed me, is that he basically sat outside the leader the entire way and not once fought for the lead before really letting down in the straight. The time they run was pretty good also as he looked to have plenty in the tank. Avdulla sticks and the step up to 1200m is perfect for him going into a class 1. He will lead this race and I’m sure his Waterhouse/Bott fitness will be too good for his rivals.

This mare has come back well this preparation and looks to have strengthened up and matured. (7) Miss Dior has hit the ground running and will be looking for three-in-a-row this preparation. First-up at this track and distance she broke her maiden in impressive fashion before timing her run well at Kembla Grange to salute by under half a length. She really has some zip and I love that Adrian Layt stays aboard here from a good barrier. I expect her to just sit off the leaders before making her move on the turn like she did two back, before streaking away.
