The J.J. Atkins Plate is a Group 1 race for two-year-olds during the Brisbane winter carnival.

Run over 1600m at Eagle Farm, the J.J. Atkins is run on the same day as the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, and in 2021, the inaugural running of the Q22 will also take place on the card.

The J.J. Atkins is run under set-weight conditions, with fillies getting a 2kg weight allowance over the colts and geldings.

The race has a total  prizemoney purse of $1million, with the winner collecting $600,000.

Originally run as The Claret Stakes, the race gained Group 1 status in 1985. It was renamed to the TJ Smith Stakes in 1999, before changing to its current name of the J.J.Atkins Plate in 2013 after legendary Brisbane trainer Jim Atkins.

The J.J. Atkins Plate can be seen live on Sky Racing.
