This six-year-old gelding is in a vein of form this preparation and looks to try to make it 3 winners in his last 4 starts. (1) Urbino won at this track first-up over the 1450m before being run over late second-up at Port Macquarie over the 1800m. Last start, they tackled 2000m at Port Macquarie where he showed just how strong he was over that distance with the fitness under his belt. This is a very thin Class 3 and with him tackling 1900m again fourth-up, he is going to be hard to beat, even from the poor barrier. I’ll be very surprised if he goes down here.

I thought it was an awesome debut by (12) Tawfiq Lass at Taree where it come from the second half of the field and made solid ground to finish third, doing its best work late. The leaders dictated the race, but she showed some nice acceleration to finish in the placings, so she will no doubt love the step up to 1250m here. The draw is a touch awkward, so I am banking on the experience of Andrew Gibbons to get her into a nice spot in transit. Providing he doesn’t get too far back on her; she should be very strong late and be hard to pass when she gets in front.

(2) Standing Bear is coming back from an unscheduled freshen up after awaiting a dry track. He was particularly good first-up after a long break, winning at Port Macquarie. The form from that race has stood up nicely with Alastor running well next start and Sian winning at Hawkesbury. With nothing but sunshine and the prospect of a good track, he should get a great run throughout from barrier 3 with Aaron Bullock once again taking the ride. I definitely think he is fit despite the delay between races, so expect him to be very competitive.
