Kilmore Racing Tips: Friday, October 30th

It’s a field of nine to commence proceedings at Kilmore, which at the time of writing, is a Good 4. The market is pretty wide-spread with all but two of the nine runners under double figures. This is one of those races where the price has determined my willingness to get involved.

The three favourites (4) Countess Tessa, (9) Seattle Dancer & (6) Jens are all with a solid chance. Countess Tessa may have the match fitness coming into this one, whereas Seattle Dancer may be the classiest given time.

But for me, (3) Coastal Charm is the one that looks to have found a nice maiden to get its first win. The Shooting To Win filly has only raced once, where she placed third behind Baaqyah. On that day Baaqyah ran away stylishly but she fought out the minors. She is fitter here, and doesn’t appear to be facing one with the same quality at Baaqyah—keeping in mind she subsequently ran a good fourth behind Written Beauty. Coastal Charm gets a good draw, can lead or sit off-pace, and chalk up this win. Great each-way play.

With our top pick scratched, The Horse now leans towards Countless Tessa as top pick.

This is another tricky little maiden where we find the Maher & Eustace runner (12) Paparazzi Queen favourite. She has had two starts to date—her first she placed a respectable fourth at Donald behind Ringfort, who came out yesterday and saluted in a tougher race (hope you followed and jagged the $19).

She improved to place second her next start, which looks like it may have been in harder company than she finds herself in today. Performed well on both Good and Soft going, but unfortunately gets an ordinary gate today. Let’s bank on a couple scratchings to bring her in a touch. She’s the top pick.

(7) Credenza looks to have some improvement while the Chris Waller runner (11) Zoudica, despite coming fourth in a four-horse race, can be in the mix.

We have a field of fifteen competing in this 1450 metre maiden. Normally I am not willing to get overly involved in races with large fields, as there are too many variables. However, there are several that we can immediately put a line through based on their previous poor performances.

The top weight takes my fancy (1) Austrata who returns to the track two-stone lighter (gelded). His first two runs last preparation had enough merit to be competitive today, placing fourth in both attempts. His latest race he came in behind winner Zakurak (who brained them) and second place-getter Changing Tracks—who also won a race yesterday at Cranbourne (aptly picked on top by yours truly). That day there was little between them, so with the obvious improvement, this race is well within his grasp.

It is hard to ignore (6) Ready To Indulge for Maher & Eustace, which could well be theirs (and Harry Coffey’s) third great chance in four races.

(4) Willetts at good each way odds goes in the exotics.

Another pretty big field here for the first of the bm58s. There’s a good chance around four of these runners will be scratched—which is important, as the top selection (5) Frome The Stars has an absolute horror gate. At around $5.00 at the time of writing, we can expect the price to shorten a touch before jump, so pretty keen to take it early.

Frome The Stars ran second last start in a bm64, clearly dropping down in grade today, and has had success on wet and dry tracks. The Price & Kent stable just know how to place a runner in the right race on the right day, and this looks like one of those days.

There are couple at shorter odds, who can easily be right in the finish, including (2) The Regiment & (1) Anirishman.

There is a nice little drift on the favourite (2) She’s A Kracka, mainly thanks to some interest in a few of the other runners. Admittedly, she was a little short in the opening market. Once that drift looks to level out, she is the one for me.

Proven on all track conditions, she drops down in grade from a bm64, where she placed third, and was pretty unlucky not to have won. She came down the outside but just couldn’t pick up the leaders (beaten by half a length). Harry Coffey gets the steer for the first time, with John Allen booked on a number of rides at Moonee Valley later tonight.

It’s a pretty wide open race outside of her, with (4) You Ess Success open to improvement, while (8) Red Jewel Girl can’t be ignored after her consistent efforts at this level (25 starts for 15 times in the money).
