There is a huge day of racing ahead with three night meetings and five day meetings.

Pretty interested in the first race on the card with favourite (6) Johnny Thunder as the top selection. The Michael Moroney runner comes into this after two second places at Echuca and Tatura. Today he finds himself in a smaller field against a number of runners yet to show much. The odds of $2.70 are pretty generous so we are taking the odds now. The track is expected to be rated ‘Good’ so he should find every chance despite the wider draw—which is likely to be offset by early speed anyway (expect him to sit outside the leader).

Can’t entirely rule out (7) Redhead & (5) I Love This Hippy.

Another maiden that sees a few more seasoned runners look to break-through.

(7) Casino Nicconi was not beaten by much in his first-up run, only being nutted later in the run. Should take improvement here, and if the field doesn’t throw out anything unexpected, than he can get the win. He gets an okay draw and should have enough speed to get up on speed over this 1100 metre affair.

Drawn inside of him is (11) Quality Diamond and looks to be a threat. Eleven starts for four places, he has had plenty of chances, but is finding it tough to break this grade.

(6) Abated is the one at good double-figure odds and worth including in the exotics.

This race looks reasonably open so the favourite (2) Kansino looks a little vulnerable. Despite having the right stable and jockey combination, last preparation she took several races to break the maiden. She could be looking for another run and is likely to be better over further ground.

(1) Picardy on the other hand won first-up and brings fitness into this race. Given it wasn’t the greatest field to beat, but she showed some ability to get the win. Should only improve and at the better odds, keen to take her.

(12) Ever Loved A Woman comes into this race after a few good runs, coming 3^rd, 4^th and 3^rd. She can continue that form and go close again. She drops down in grade a touch, and is a good each-way play or inclusion in the exotics. Pretty interested in having something on her too.

The Horse

The Horse found the thought of placing bets and drinking beers much more appealing once he was married, and that led to an interest in the many intricacies of The Great Game. He enjoys the challenge of predicting what will happen in any given race, but also loves horses themselves, none more so than the mighty mudlark Jungle Edge. His focus lies on metropolitan racing in Victoria and NSW, however isn’t afraid to find one out wide. Away from racing, The Horse is an avid drummer – quite a difficult task with a set of hooves.
