Canterbury Racing Tips: Friday, November 13th

The Canterbury night season kicks off on Friday as we head away from the Spring and into the Summer racing. Joshua Reed has previewed all eight races with his tips and best bets below!

CanterburyFridayNight

The Canterbury night season kicks off on Friday as we head away from the Spring and into the Summer racing.

The track is rated a Soft 5 with the rail in the true position, and the rule of thumb at Canterbury is normally on-pace, on-rails. There is a stack of rain predicted in Sydney on Friday so there’s a good chance we see a track downgrade.

Best Bet: Race 2 – (7) Ruddock

Best Value: Race 6 – (12) Happy Candy

Was a different race to assess to yesterday now that the main speed in Belieber has come out, so I have settled with (2) Selburose here with the hope they sit a touch more forward in the run from the ideal draw. I love the form line around it this preparation narrowly going down in both contests against Ellsburg who I do rate on Saturday and Lord Olympus who has won 4/5 this preparation. If Nash can lead or be second on the fence, I think he will give her every chance in the straight third-up.

(4) Kiku is the main danger and I thought her run in Saturday grade on the heavy was quite good. She gets a nice 2kg claim from Thomas Stockdale and beware of a possible late second tactics change and possibly utilizing the claim and going forward to lead. Will be playing her as well.

(7) Supremo didn’t do a lot in its first preparation but in its defence it ran on heavy going followed by a hot race in Brisbane. He doesn’t like the wet so if the track improves, don’t leave him out.

(9) Oh Say next best.

Top Pick: (2) Selburose $2.75 Bet365

I am keen on (7) Ruddock here from the Annabel Neasham camp. Loved the first-up second at Newcastle behind Shaddy, beating the rest of field by 2.3 lengths before they went to Kembla Grange on Cup day where I thought she was credible on the heavy going in second behind Mission Way. She prefers a dryer track which she will get here and they will no doubt head forward from the wide barrier and Nash aboard. She will be fighting fit here and I think she is the best horse in this race. Only bad luck will beat her.

(6) Mr Gee was good at Newcastle going back to last off the wide barrier. I think he is the main danger here as he potentially can sit closer but will need some luck to get there. He will be flying late regardless but prefer him on a bigger track.

(12) Kakariki is one that will sit closer from the draw to her previous starts. My query for her is the tight Canterbury track but if she handles it okay, she will be around the mark.

(4) Earl Of Sandwich next best.

You just never know how these 1900m races will turn out at Canterbury and on that note, I have gone with (4) Unamerican who is in some good form. His two wins at Newcastle were brilliant and I still think he is better over further so it does not worry me that he is drawn wide here, because they will go forward on him. If they want to make it a staying test, he will win. He will either lead or stalk the leader in a race with no pace, but if the pace is too slow, I expect them to increase the tempo and out stay them.

(2) Gone Bye is the obvious danger. Will get a potentially soft lead and could make it a sit and sprint and if he gets that, he will win this. Pretty confident of a two-horse race, but which way will determine how the race is run.

(9) Kutayha will come into calculations if the other two destroy each other. Looked good behind Time Raid at Kensington and should handle the extra 100m.

(14) Glamour Fox with the low weight may be prominent.

Odds Last Updated: November 14, 2020, 12:51am (AEDT)

Going with (4) He’s A Hotshot here after his promising first-up run at Warwick Farm. He fell 1.3 lengths short of beating Shadow Crush but managed to put the rest of the field away by 2.8 lengths. In his two goes at Canterbury he has performed well, and I believe he will get into a nice spot from the wide alley. He is a better horse than what he has shown. He is entered in the seventh where he will be top pick again.

(7) Great Danger would have to be the main danger here as he as a tremendous first-up record and that is generally when he runs his best races. The draw is a touch iffy but if Avdulla can get him into a nice spot, he will be right there in the end.

(6) Deference should be hitting his peak now but must contend with a wide alley. If he can follow (4) He’s A Hotshot over, he could get a dream run or worse, be stuck wide.

(10) El Magnificence is next best.

Top Pick: (4) He’s A Hotshot $3.20 Palmerbet

This girl is talented, and I believe she will stay undefeated here. (12) Najmah was impressive at Kembla Grange on Cup Day and pulled a nice speed figure on route to a 3.8 length win. She is drawn perfectly and will lead the field up or at worst box seat before peeling off and kicking away. She is talent.

(3) Lord Olympus is the only danger in my eyes as he is the one that will kick up inside of her. He has been impressive every start since day one and continues to show up. If (12) Najmah has a weakness, he will be the one to pounce.

(5) Lesage will appreciate being back on a dryer deck and will go forward from the wide gate. Include in exotics.

(9) Star Of Harada is the next best.

Odds Last Updated: November 14, 2020, 12:51am (AEDT)

Bit of open race here and have landed with (12) Happy Candy. Two starts ago at Canterbury was solid being comfortably held a bay by Invinciano before a brave run at Kensington-Randwick, going down by less than a length in fourth to Le Gai Soleil. She stays around a mile which is ideal, and regardless of the track conditions, I expect her to be right in the thick of this. She has drawn barrier four and will no doubt go forward in this race and prove hard to catch fourth-up.

(8) Olympic Legend is going to have a task to get across but if he can, he will be right in this. His run at Kensington last start was good and he will appreciate staying at the mile.

(5) Criminal Code has the form to be in this race but may be still wanting further and may want a bigger track.

(3) Bigboyroy next best.

If (14) He’s A Hotshot does not race in this or even if he does, I will be playing around (10) Phoenix Global. He handles the Sydney way of going and if he handled a track like Moonee Valley, he will be fine at Canterbury. With Tommy Berry steering him from the inside barrier, he could run his rivals into the ground.

(7) Zouologist arguably should have won last start and should get into a much better spot with the claim here. Brilliant chance to run a drum.

(11) Stolen Jade is my pick in the last with little confidence and will be a no play race for me. Her figures were good when winning first-up at Gosford but is yet to win on a good track. Her draw is okay and will settle just off the leaders. Jay Ford will need a peach to get her home, but I think she is the right pick in the last.

(8) Alison of Tuffy is the next best and she will settle in a nice position throughout. I do query the step back to 1200m as her record is poor but if the speed goes on, she will be suited in the final stages.

(6) Spanish Dream is draw ideally and I think they will look to go forward with the addition of Cejay Graham and her 3kg claim. First-up is fair and has raced okay at Canterbury before.

(3) Bring The Ransom is a good horse and will be flying late in the piece.

Top Pick: (11) Stolen Jade $5.60 Sportsbetting
