With the favourite scratched, it does look an ideal race for (12) Sabaku. She was good in two runs to start the prep, including a 2nd to Yulong Justify, who bolted in with a bm64 after beating Sabaku. Happy to forgive last start over 1400m- with blinkers on she got far too keen and pulled up with EIPH. Blinkers come off for this, and if she can’t win this she might struggle to win a race anywhere.

I was with (4) Madam Superior at big odds last start and she was given no chance. She jumped awkwardly from the inside, had to be hunted up to find the lead, and had the very quick Meteorite attacking her on the outside the entire race. Both leaders dropped out in a fast run race won by the backmarkers. That was a bm78 at Caulfield and she drops to a bm64 here against much lower opposition. Can bounce back.

(10) Starden Lass was very good from the back first up and can improve here with 56.5kg.

The Mildura Cup has attracted a solid field and I’m keen to be with the early firmer. (4) Street Tough was one of the worst beats I’ve ever seen last start- he should’ve won by about 3 lengths. The map looks fine and most notably he gets in well at the weights, receiving 5kg off his female danger.

(1) More Than Exceed won this race when run at Swan Hill last year. I didn’t mind his first up run in the Topaz, sticking on well in a stronger race. His 2nd up record isn’t as good as his first, but he does look the leader and will be hard to run down.

(2) Sierra Sue is the early favourite but I don’t love her dropping from 1600m to 1400m on a 6 day backup whilst losing blinkers and getting back in the field.

Trent Crebbin

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
