Does look a race in two and I’m just leaning to (5) Duchy Of Savoy who has returned very well, bolting in at Sandown. The 3.5L margin could’ve been closer to 5L if fully extended and she did take on some hot races last prep. She gets 4kg off the favourite and can hopefully tag him wherever he goes.

(1) Unflinching will no doubt be hard to run down. He’s been too fast at both career runs, the latest at this T/D in this grade. He’s up 3.5kg in weight but likely finds the front again and if he doesn’t get attacked he’s probably the one to beat.

Tip: (5) Duchy Of Savoy- $2.45 at TopSport

Betting Strategy: 1 unit WIN Duchy Of Savoy

(3) Eros on top. He ran very well on debut at $1.80, sitting outside the leader & winner but just going down by a nose. They gapped 3rd and the overall time was solid, especially the late splits which were strong. Expect he lobs in the first few from barrier 3 and is hard to beat.

(8) Sumatra has won a trial in NSW leading into this, and Kah jumps off Eros to ride which is interesting. She didn’t show heaps of early speed and did have to be ridden out a bit but coasted through the line well. 1200m looks a good starting point for her but expect she gets over a bit further.

(5) Reservoir Dog has jumped out well enough to be a good chance on debut.

I thought the favourite (5) Daqiansweet Junior was short enough. He’s progressive and coming off three straight wins, but they’ve all been by narrow margins and this is a big step up from last start.

(1) Good Idea comes out of the best race, the listed Bagot Handicap. He wasn’t particularly well weighted there carrying 60kg but battled strongly in a very fast early race shape. He looks well placed here with 58kg in benchmark grade and should be hard to beat.

(3) Starcaster races best at The Valley, having won 2/3 at this T/D. He was okay last start in a 2000m bm100 when leading as usual but is a listed winner here and if rated correctly can be hard to run down.

(2) In A Twinkling the other that can run well, although Good Idea easily had his measure in the Pakenham Cup.

Fairly keen to back Good Idea and Starcaster to beat Daqiansweet Junior. Slightly better result Good Idea.

(7) Wellsford comes out of the strongest race behind Seawhatyouthink and whilst he was beaten 6L, he did still beat Brilliant Venture home, who came out and bolted in at Caulfield, beating a couple that line up here. The start prior at this T/D he was a touch unlucky and this looks the right race for him.

(1) Saving is a tricky one. If he gets everything his way, he looks super and wins well. He got that last start and won, but the start prior he had to work a bit early and got keen, not able to finish off. He’s back to 2500m but did beat Bagot winner Tigertiger by 6L at this T/D earlier in the prep, again when able to dictate.

(2) Salto Angel should be at peak fitness now after running well behind Brilliant Venture last start. She was only 3rd up there but it was a very slowly run race.

(4) Lost Impact next best.

212026.5

This is a great little match race between (2) Yulong Command and (5) Winsum who have clashed a couple of times before.

(2) Yulong Command was no match for Scorched Earth down the straight last start and is better suited around a bend. His run prior at listed level when leading was very good, only beaten 1.5L by Enthaar. In their two meetings, Yulong Command is 1-1 all with Winsum, although the advantage came over 1200m.

(5) Winsum is best kept to the 1000m. He resumed with a strong win at Pakenham and has been kept fresh for this. Interesting to note he’s started $4 against Yulong Command’s $21 both times they’ve met, which has never been at 1000m. I think both are suited at the trip, but Winsum a touch more so. Winsum can land midfield and Yulong Command may have to work a bit with Grandview Avenue and Sam’s Image drawn inside which has me leaning to Winsum.

Tip: (5) Winsum- $2.90 at Sportsbet

Betting Strategy: 1.5 units WIN Winsum

11. Sharp Response (8) J: Beau Mertens (58kg) T: Julius Sandhu
3.63.53.7

Competitive little race. (10) Invincible Jet is ready now 3rd up. The first up run was a touch plain but he improved 2nd up behind In The Boat, looking like he needed 1200m which he gets here. He’ll get a soft run on speed from the gate.

(1) Deep Dive is in a similar boat. He’s run well at both starts this prep and is ready now. He may even try to lead from barrier 1 and will take some running down.

(11) Sharp Response returned with a very good run down the straight behind Clemenceau, just missing. 2nd up in his first prep he ran 2nd to Jigsaw which was solid form at the time, although he’ll have to give some fit, older horses a head start here.

(9) Marimenko has upside after a very good first prep here. He’s got good early speed but it’ll be interesting to see what they do with him from a sticky gate.

Backing Invincible Jet and Deep Dive 1×3, meaning if either places we make small profit which I think at least one will.

Keen on (4) Fundraiser here. He was very good first up down the straight over an unsuitable 1200m, running on well with 61kg. 2nd up last prep he was a touch unlucky but ran on well at Caulfield behind Corner Pocket which is good form. He’s quickly up to 1500m here but expecting the stable have him fit enough and he can land much closer from the gate.

(12) Unanimous is racing well but this is harder. He’s down in the weights but just a query where he gets to on the map from the wide gate.

(10) Galactic Fury drops 10kg in weight after recording a strong win last start. This is much harder but he’ll be hard to hold out.

(6) High ’n’ Dry next best.

See no reason why (11) In The Boat won’t be too fast again. He was given a great front running ride by Kelly last start at Caulfield to hold off Marine One and up to 1200m is no issue at all. With 55kg, he’s rock hard fit and finds the front again.

(1) Curran has been mixing his form but went well behind Marabi last start which is obviously good form. Back to a bm84 suits although I’d prefer him at Caulfield.

(7) Midships races well fresh and the golden topaz win says he’s clearly up to these. Draw is a bit sticky however.

(13) Sacred Palace will need some luck from barrier 2 but if the gaps come he’ll be charging at them late.

Toughest race of the day. (6) Gabeira was very good first up behind In The Boat and Marine One, running the 2nd fastest lat 600/400m of the race. The wide gate is the query but last prep he drew wide a few times and went forward, so perhaps they do so again despite Waller’s pattern.

(11) Patrika Gold was far too good on debut at Terang, leading all the way. This is harder but she’s promising.

(10) Estoril Park ran well last start in a strong bm64. She drops 3kg and maps for a soft run here.

(2) Mariamia bolted in here a few runs back when able to lead and dictate. Doubt that happens here but she’s racing well.

Tip: (6) Gabeira- $6.00 at TAB

Betting Strategy: 0.5 units WIN Gabeira

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
