I was very impressed with the debut of (4) Schiller’s Myst at Dubbo and I think he can go better here. The son of Artie Schiller sat worse than midfield on the back of an even pace before having to try and force his way through to get into clear air. As he got into clear air, he again had to be eased a touch near the 200m before again picking up and finishing the race off well. He ended up finishing 0.2 of a length off the winner in third and was easily the best rated horse of the race of that run. Sticking to around the same distance is ideal, Grant Buckley sticks and coming into this race with a run under his belt is very beneficial. This bet would be higher if I knew he could handle the heavy going but on ratings alone, he is the one to beat.

I well and truly believe that this girl is over the odds and plenty of factor’s line-up perfectly for her. (4) Trophies Galore ran tremendously well two back at Newcastle on the heavy going, where she ran some nice closing sectionals but didn’t manage to get past Lettre D’Amour in the dying stages, finishing 0.25 of a length off in second. She then entered the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket and was given no hope and unfortunately that was the case, especially since she was caught wide without cover and against quality opposition, she wasn’t a chance. To her credit, she fought on well, finishing about 6.6 lengths back in eighth. She should be at peak fitness now and back on rain affected going is ideal. Her record at Muswellbrook is good, the record at the distance is good and her record at this track and distance is good.

Then we look at her opposition, who are quality, but all have their excuses as to why they might not win. Pure Fuego is a deserved favourite but he has bigger targets than this, and I think he is using this run as a stepping stone for his grand final at Royal Randwick. Total Recall is first-up and although he handles the going, he will be looking for much further. Two Big Fari is also first-up and will be carrying a big weight, even with the claim of Dylan Gibbons. It could be a tough task.

This is a wide-open race as it should be, being the Wild Card for the Country Championships. (8) Quadriga is way over the odds after a very forgivable run at Grafton. The son of Sebring sat midfield on the back of a quick pace, bumped with another runner on straightening and couldn’t let down. Most of the winners on the day were closer to the rail, whereas he wasn’t, and it was later found that he has a poor recovery.

In the past, he has performed well on a heavy surface and he did so in a benchmark 70 at Canterbury, carrying 61kg. I think this sets up well for him and he carries the lowest weight since May last year, so he won’t know himself. I am willing to have a small bet on him in a race that could go to any runner.

I am shocked that this girl opened up at $7.50, all because of one run. (5) Itz Lily was slow out at the Gold Coast in the Magic Millions Quality and she was then held up around the 500m mark, which gave her no hope in an already tough race. Before that, she won the Provincial Summer Final at Wyong in impressive fashion and that is the form I expect to come to the fore.

She is returning from a let-up, where she has had 2 trials in between so I think she will be up to the mark fitness wise. She generally performs well fresh, and she loves the sting out of the ground, so expect her to be put in an ideal position from the inside draw with no weight on her back. She will be flying late!
