I was on (7) The Empire last start and was extremely disappointed with the run only to read in the steward’s report that it may not have handled the firmer track conditions. I cannot accept that as an entire excuse as the colt did do a bit of work early to get into a position outside the lead. He noticeably weakened and I believe it was more the work he did early that hampered his chances later in the race, rather than the conditions. Either way, he faces a small field here and looks to have superior speed to many of those to his inside. With light rain forecast throughout the morning in Nowra, the track may go down to a Soft 5 which will enhance his chances if he prefers a bit of sting out. This is his last chance with me.

This is a two-horse race and I have gone with the outsider of the two (5) Divine Intavention. She ticks a few more boxes for me as she has not only performed well over the 1400m but she also has an extra run under her belt. She proved last preparation that she can mix it with the better horses, finishing less than two lengths off Dancing Gidget and Saigon third-up last preparation. She is drawn well and I expect her to sit closer like she did last start at Kembla Grange and be just off the lead, which is likely going to be her main rival and favourite (13) Solar Flash.

These two will fight it out and I believe our girl’s fitness mixed with her having the senior jockey is going to be the difference.

This bloke is much better than country grade and he proved that last preparation. (1) Amoretti comes into this on the back of two trials which will have him primed for this one and I believe he will be too classy for these ones. Since breaking his maiden status at Newcastle last preparation, he ran a decent third behind Fashchanel and Steel Diamond at Kembla Grange then he almost upset the favourite at Wyong. That favourite’s name was Academy who has been very consistent in Sydney with wins in its last two. Although he finished fifth in his last start, he was wide throughout and a forgive run. He is drawn well to sit prominent and providing he can handle carrying 61kg first-up, he should be too good.

This is the best bet of the day and it’s a silly price on offer.

(5) Egyptian Missile is in tremendous form and she is looking to make it three in a row after her demolition of her rivals last start at Orange. She gets a similar set-up to last start where she will be able to get into a rhythm in the middle of the pack and let down with her turn of foot late. The only thing that beats her is bad luck and I am expecting her to start below $2.00, so get on as early as you can!
