I really struggle to get (4) Star Storm $1.50 here. She was only run down late over 1400m here last start, and she gets in with just 53kg here for the in-form apprentice Holly Watson, but the filly has had a few chances now. I also think her two sub-par runs have come on wet ground. Clearly the one they’ll have to chase down but at those prohibitive odds, I’ll take her on by playing very small on a couple of others.

(8) My Rani is the first of those. William Pike is booked for Brock Lewthwaite here. He rode this filly in a recent trial and when he rides for this trainer, they normally go well. Not sure that there was anything at all of note in her trial, but expecting a good run on debut.

(6) Prairie Angel is the one I’m more interested in at double figure odds. She’s failed to do anything in three career starts but I did think her recent trial was OK. This stable have a great record at Pinjarra, with five winners and six placings from 16 starters this season. Drawn well, finds a suitable race.

Pretty keen on the chances of (5) Allegiance here. This horse was very heavily-backed on debut at York and Mitch Pateman nearly got put through the rail at the 200m mark when he went for an inside run. He sat up on her at that point and she dropped out to finish last. We stuck with her when she went to town last start and started big odds, and she ran well as expected for 2nd behind the $1.40 favourite Jedi Mind. Winkers on for the first time today and I think the other favourite (7) Lacieon is under the odds, so happy to have a good bet at Allegiance.

Surely, surely today is the day for (1) Free Solo. In four of his five starts, he’s gone down at prices of $5.50, $2.70, $1.70 and $5.00, so he’s proving to be costly, but this race is his for the taking. He was OK first up over 1400m at Belmont without being fantastic. Gets back to Pinjarra which is where his two best career runs have come. Coincidentally, the stable also have a great record here, with a 24% winning strike rate and a 67% place strike rate. Provided he handles the soft ground, he should be winning this.

Worth noting (10) Star Subject was $8.00 into $5.00 first up when it did very little. Gets a stack of gear changes today, with blinkers, a lugging bit and the tongue tie all going on for the first time.

Another maiden here and I’m keen on a couple at good odds, which actually both wear the same colours.

(12) Roseworth was very heavily backed on debut at Northam, starting the $3.50 favourite. She led and dropped out to finish last, beaten 10L with seemingly no excuses. There had to be something wrong there as her run was too bad to be true. Respecting that market move for her as well as the stable she is from, with Chris Parnham booked to ride today. Doubt he’d be going on if it was simply no good.

(11) Poker Face is Paige Kenney’s only runner of the day. She goes well here at Pinjarra in particular and this horse didn’t get much luck on debut when caught three-wide the trip. Draws the inside barrier today so shouldn’t have that problem, and also gets the blinkers applied for the first time. Think she is over the odds at more than 20/1.

(7) Takemehometonight another worth mentioning, bringing form behind the likes of Western Empire and Hot Zed to the race. Won a recent trial and might go well with any luck from that draw.
