Tough little race to start the day, especially with the unknown of the weather and track bias.
(6) Amen Corner goes on top for me here after two decent trials in the lead-up for this. Her first trial was nice and gave her a good blow out over the 800m at Gosford which would have prepared her nicely for the next trial which was over 1045m. In that trial, she led by a fair margin before being softly ridden in the later part of the straight. Her trial in October last year still stands out to me where I thought she performed well around known two-year-olds in Cerda and Four Moves Ahead. I love the fact she has had two trials in preparation for this and with good gate speed, I expect her to be in a prominent position. She is a nice each-way proposition.
(11) Syracuse comes right into calculations if she gets a run. I thought her debut was very good as she fought hard to the line behind King of Sparta and Hilal, despite being wide throughout. She will come on immensely from that run and would have been on top for me has she gained a start.
(10) Trifaccia has trialled up nicely and does look a talented type. Her draw does concern me and where she gets to on the map.
Tip: (11) Syracuse $6.00

I am siding with the daughter of Criterion here in (2) Lady of Luxury who has ran well in both of her runs this preparation. She went to the Gold Coast first-up for the big maiden race up there and she was no match for Newsreader, who has since come out and won impressively. She ran second on the day and all three horses that finished behind her have since won their next start. Last start she couldn’t run down Skedaddle, who dictated terms and saluted by just under a length. Our filly chased hard late that day and despite running second, she beat home the rest of the field by 3.3 lengths. She gets similar conditions here with the track being soft and I think she will relish the step up to 1400m. She will go very close.
(5) The Denzel ran really well last start but found one better in Wheelhouse, who camped off the speed and made it’s run late. He will come on nicely from that run and with that run being over 1400m, there is no doubt that he can run the distance. He will get into a prominent position from the draw and poses the main danger to our top selection.
(10) Vanilla Sky is making her debut after three 1000m trials in the lead up to this. Her latest trial was decent as she established a massive lead and was given a good rest towards the end of the trial. She will go forward from the outside gate which will be advantageous though the lack of race day experience leaves me with a question mark.

This is very much a tactics-based race with a lot of unknowns when it comes to the map. (8) Fill of Fun goes on top for me here with the hope that they make good use of the good draw and head forward. She drew poorly last start, and the stable changed her tactics so that she was ridden conservatively from the wide barrier. In-turn, she was ridden upside down and had to chase which wasn’t to her liking, as she finished 1.7 lengths back in fifth behind rivals (2) Guise and (7) Laila De Vega. She doesn’t meet any of these better at the weights as Nash Rawiller will ride at 56.5kg, but the experience of Nash and the draw will offset any weight difference issues. There is little speed in this race so hopefully they lead throughout and fight right to the end.
(3) Toscanini is back from a let-up and should carry some decent residual fitness into this race. This is much easier than what he has faced in his last run, but will he be up to the mark over 1800m? I think he will run well but I think he will need this run.
(7) Laila De Vega will likely sit in a nice spot just off the pace and come with a nice run late. She is proven in the wet and can be a huge chance if they clap the speed on.

Gee (3) Snitzify has drawn nicely for this contest, especially with there being average speed. He was good behind Flexible last start despite not being a match for her and gets slightly better conditions here, back against his own sex in the same benchmark rating, carrying the same weight and with a possible leader bias. I expect Bowman to take him forward to either lead or box seat before making a move in the straight. He is very fit and handles all going, I think he will be hard to beat.
(8) Grenado will be right there if (3) Snitzify begins to tire. He was impressive at Canterbury even though it was just a maiden race. This is a big step for him, and I am still not convinced that he can handle the wet, despite winning by 1.8 lengths last week on the heavy going. He is well bred and has the right jock aboard, let us see if he can step it up here.
(2) Saffiano could be a smokey here depending on what they do from the draw. If they go forward, they give themselves a better chance, but it is a tricky draw to go from. He is another who has question marks over whether he can handle the wet.

Not a race I want to play here.
(5) Pitchfork goes on top for me here despite the poor performance last start. They went back from the barrier last start at Randwick which is against his usual pattern and he just didn’t look comfortable chasing from that far back. Before that he sat in fourth in the run at Canterbury before saluting by 1.3 lengths in a similar grade. They are drawn wide again here but with the lack of speed on paper, hopefully they head forward and either sit outside the lead or just off the leader. The wet track won’t worry him and the step back in grade looks ideal. He is a decent each-way prospect.
(6) Marsannay is likely to get the easy lead from the inside gate and could prove very hard to beat. He has been racing in much harder races and looks to be peaking fitness wise now. He has never run at this distance, which is a slight query, but he matches up on the other race factors, so if he can tick the distance box, look out.
(2) Zegalo will appreciate the sting out of the ground and the step up in distance. I am expecting good improvement.

Grant Buckley is coming to Randwick-Kensington on Wednesday for this one ride and I think he can walk away with the spoils. (7) The Neon Knight has been nothing short of impressive this preparation and is going for five in a row as she steps up in grade here. The beauty of her is that she handles any going, a 1000m specialist and is very versatile in terms of running position. From the draw I expect her to be just off the leaders before making her move on the bend. Obviously, this is a lot tougher than her past runs, but they wouldn’t be bringing her to town if they didn’t think she could be competitive.
(3) Marway was impressive in his Sydney debut, holding off the challenges of proven and fit horses. He will come on nicely from that run and in the past has handled the wet tracks, but this is a lot harder. Josh Parr goes on at the big weight and I expect him to be competitive once again.
(10) Virgo has a tricky draw and can be competitive providing they can get in quickly from the draw.

After running boldly in town last start, (1) Fashchanel looks primed to strike here second-up. She was very impressive on resumption from a break, taking the favourite and eventual winner April Rain right to the line in their 1300m race. She drops to a mid-week benchmark 72 against her own sex which gives me great confidence that she will perform well, especially with a run under her belt. She is likely to sit just off the leaders or midfield at worse and should get a nice run throughout by James McDonald. The query will be if she can handle a wet track but based on her one heavy track run, I think she can use her class to get her over the line.
(6) Brookspire is returning from a let-up after breaking her maiden in December. She narrowly beat Exoboom who has since won twice whilst beating the rest of the field by 3.9 lengths and longer. This is the worst draw that she has had, and I expect them to go back on her before making a run late. She will be targeting better races than this and I think this is merely a steppingstone for fitness.
(3) Elegant Grace after the solid win last start should run well. The step back in distance is a query but that win will give her plenty of confidence.
Tip: (1) Fashchanel $4.00
