(4) Sahra had a particularly good first preparation, winning her debut race by 3.3L on a Soft 6 at Kembla Grange before fighting to the end at Rosehill on a Heavy 8. In that race, she fought hard despite racing greenly throughout the early and middle stages of the race and being steadied off heels around the 350m mark. She beat all but one horse in the race by at least 1.3L, with the horse she couldn’t get past was North Pacific, who beat her by 2.5L. She is returning on the back of one quiet trial and should be ready to go here. Expect her class to take her a long way here.

This is an interesting staying race here and I think they have figured out the niche of (4) Dundee who gets in nicely here. Last start at Newcastle, he showed some good staying ability sitting on the pace with 59kg and saluting in the end.
He meets rival (3) Coco Baci 3kg better in the weights and will possess a fitness edge over most of his rivals. The issue we may have is the step up in class, though conditions suit as Dundee has a fitness edge, is drawn well to sit on the pace and has proven in the past that he can handle these track conditions over a distance. If Tim Clark can rate him well with the low weight, he could be quite a nice each-way chance

This bloke is the gift that keeps and just keeps performing. (6) Notabadidea was thrown in the deep end last start in the St Leger Stakes at Randwick and I am willing to put a line through it. Two back in much better grade, he ran second to Kirwin’s Lane over the mile in much better grade. This is a big step back from his last two and has proven in this long preparation, he handles the sting with fitness under his belt. He is drawn ideally and with Josh Richards 3kg claim, he gets in well. He again is underrated by the bookies and I expect him to be thereabouts once again.

This is an ugly little race with not much to work with.
(2) Catapult is who I have landed on top here stepping back up to a BM72. Last start at Newcastle, he was very brave with 60kg on his back, going down narrowly to Great News. The start before he was solid but had to be ridden against his usual pattern due to the wide barrier and only managed to finish third behind Intrepidacious and Saas Fee. He has given every indication he could handle the 1300m which he gets here and gets a much kinder drawn then what he got two back. Nash Rawiller takes the ride once again and will look to put him in a forward position from the barrier, especially due to the track conditions. He has had experience on the wet ground though this is a different kettle of fish.

Another race which isn’t overly appealing from a form point of view, though I have landed with (8) Kutayha here on the back of his maiden victory at Newcastle. He made light work of his opposition there, putting them away by 2.5L over the 1500m. Before that he was poor at Wyong over the mile, but he had excuses. The Savabeel gelding comes into this third-up with fitness nearing its peak and gets a good draw for Lee Magorrian to put him into a nice position throughout the race. I think this is a nice race for him, especially with the track conditions being from Savabeel. He handled the soft 7 thrown at him in his first preparation and with a low weight here, can make his presence known.

Happy to play on (7) Snippy Fox at nice odds after back to back placings in the midweeks. Two back you could argue she should have finished closer after being blocked in the straight and in the end going down 2.3L to Alison of Tuffy. Last start she sat on the pace but got overrun by East Asia and Special Snap late in the piece. I think this is a nice race for her given the track conditions especially, and the 3kg claim of Louise Day. If she can start well from the ideal draw, she could prove hard to run down in the later stages of the race, even if she takes a sit behind leaders, she could use her fitness edge and we track experience to run away. Let’s hope they can begin well and sit forward.

(13) Vulpine has a history of performing well on wet tracks and is going to get in here nice and light. Her entire preparation before she went for a spell were on wet tracks which culminated on her 2.7L third behind Killin, 0.4L behind the talented Tailleur and beating home Group 3 winner Emeralds, in a race where she had plenty of excuses also. The middle draw shouldn’t be an issue, Brock Ryan claims 1.5kg which will bring her below the minimum, and her first-up record is good enough for her to make an impact here. She also comes into this on the back of one trial, but she will be classy enough to be there in the end providing Brock Ryan can get her in a forward position.
