Randwick Racing Tips: Thursday, December 17th

A nice maiden race to start the day and I will be backing two horses in this race. (1) Exoboom was honest first-up and just got beaten by a better ride/horse on the day though he did beat his opposition by 4.5 lengths. The query I have here is the map and where he gets to in the run, but he gets the benefits of dropping back to his own age group, dropping 2kg on the last run and gaining James McDonald as the rider. Handled the soft going well at Newcastle so I don’t believe that will be an issue. With even luck, he will be right there.

(2) Overlord is the other one I want to back being the best maiden going around at the moment. He returns here a gelding and much like his rival, will have to contend with a horror draw. The track conditions won’t worry him but where he gets to in the run will determine how well he goes in his return race.

(3) Solar Apex will be fitter for his first-up run and goes okay in the wet.

(5) Supremo next best.

Not overly confident in this one and have landed with (10) Virgo from the Godolphin yard. She was fair at Canterbury finishing 2.3 lengths behind La Foret which has stood up well with La Foret winning next start. Kerrin McEvoy sticks with her here and she is drawn well to be able to sit closer in the run if they want. She will be much fitter for the run which is a key here on the wet going, though she does have a decent history on the softer tracks. She should be thereabouts

(3) Grenado would be on top had he had a run this preparation, but I am happy to watch this one go to the keeper and I believe he will be better with the run under the belt.

(4) Head Legislator was bold last start but I query him on the softer tracks though he has class.

(11) Windsweep next best.

I don’t mind (6) Bob’s Your Uncle here at nice each-way odds. The form around him this preparation has been pretty good, going down narrowly to El Buena first-up whilst beating home Catapult and Sausedge. Second-up at Canterbury he was run down by On The White Turf and Criminal Code who have both won since before coming back to Canterbury and winning against Merlinite, Criminal Code and DonandKim. He is drawn well to sit handy or even lead and has shown in the past the softer going isn’t an issue. Providing he handles the going against this grade, he will have the fitness to handle the 1800m and fight to the finish.

(5) Montserrat will be handy with the 2kg claim of Tom Sherry and will be very fit heading into this after two placings over 1800m. Query over the ground but he will make his own luck in front which gives him a chance.

(13) He’s A Given loves the sting out of the ground and it won’t surprise me to see this veteran in the finish.

(4) Amica next best.

Once again going for a bit of value here each-way on the Snowden trained (3) Oregon. He could come into barrier four after scratchings which will be ideal for the Zoustar colt. He came back okay behind Count De Rupee but raced very greenly in his 3.8 length second. The blinkers go on which is a big tick and McEvoy jumping back aboard is a positive also. I not overly worried about the weight considering it is a narrow weight spread and he has the form on the board for wet tracks. I expect them to be forward on him here second-up and he will be worth the each-way bet.

(4) Private Eye won well at Gosford last start and has the runs on the board on heavy going. The draw is the query and if he can overcome that, he will be in the finish.

(6) Cathay gets the 2kg claim of Tom Sherry and will be looking to bounce back from two ordinary runs. Maybe she is looking for the wet going which she gets here at a massive price.

(5) Deepour next best.

I am willing to forgive the last run of (5) My Demetra here as I think she is going to bounce back in a big way. I thought she did well to hold onto fourth by less than a length and is really going to appreciate some sting out of the ground. I am expecting Tommy Berry to put her in a forward position once again and take advantage of her fitness. I think she is a top winning chance at nice odds.

(3) Space is Deep is one I have plenty of time for and she will love the conditions though I think it will be a touch short for her first-up. Watch her hit the line.

(2) Lisdoonvarna is another who won’t mind the conditions and has fitness under her belt. She has a poor draw but does get a 3kg claim to help her cause.

(4) Joliette next best.

Not overly a fan of this race but I did find one over the odds that I will be betting on each-way. (5) Miss Redoble has had two runs the punters would like to forget, missing the start first-up before being hampered at the start second-up and having to be eased around the 800m mark. She managed to finish within 2.5 lengths of the winner Vitesse in sixth place which itself can be obtained as a pass mark. I think they have been hanging for a wet track which they get here. Her wet form is good around horses of Saturday grade in stronger races than this, not to mention she is stepping back from Saturday grade for this race. She is third-up and up to her peak distance, so there is so much right about this bet and we are getting juicy odds.

(9) El Buena is the logical danger with the blinkers back on. Was poor last start back in grade but gets a wet track which will suit him.

(12) Pitchfork will be there abouts and just needs to overcome the draw to be a factor.

(6) Dame Kiri next best.

(5) Longbottom was a bit average first-up at Wyong but I expect to see her bounce back here. Her second-up record is good, and she will relish the sting out of the ground, having performed well on it previously in much harder races. I like the addition of Hugh Bowman, who should give her every chance from the inside barrier. I am expecting a bit run from her at nice each-way odds.

(2) Aim is one I am keen to see return after being gelded. The question mark will be around the ground but he is all class.

(9) Star of Harada relishes the wet going. He should be thereabouts at big odds.

(10) Ranges next best.
