Rosehill Racing Tips: Saturday, May 22nd

Billy Bestford previews themeeting Rosehill on Saturday and is keen to bet up in a number of races.

We have racing at Rosehill today in Sydney with a quality nine-race card to get stuck into.

The track is currently rated a soft 5 but there has been some showers around so we may see a slight downgrade. The rail is out 3 metres the entire way around.

The Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup headlines the meeting, which comes up as Race 7 on the card.

Happy to side with (7) Patino Ruby in this highway to start the day. Is only very lightly raced and has shown plenty of ability in her short career so far. Has been ticking over nicely in the trials and will just need to run out the 1200m to be a big chance.

(3) To The Nines deserves a crack in this sort of race after stringing together a couple of handy wins at country level. Will enjoy a nice run from gate 7 and is a proven 1200m horse.

(6) Katgully Red is always competitive in these sorts of races and looks to be building to a win. Only just beaten in similar grade last start and can give this a shake.

Thought (1) Conexy was a big price after a very good return when first up as a gelding. Like the step up in trip and only career win came when 2nd up last time in work. Looks over the odds.

(7) Overmann has been good this prep and looks ready to fire now 3rd up. Was a good 2nd last time behind Astrologer where they gapped the rest of the field. Will enjoy the gun run throughout.

(8) Volcanic Rock has been trialling the house down recently leading into his 2nd prep. Will have plenty of early speed and looks the one they might all have to run down.

Pretty keen to have something on (1) Charliese who looks to have the most proven form in the race. Has run and won some decent races down in Victoria and now comes up against a pretty weak bm72 field. The form around Bons Abroad looks very good.

(8) Saint Of Katowice has been flying this prep, bolting in both starts down in Victoria. Has to step up from a bm58 here but looks smart.

(2) Mensa Missile looks the likely leader and should take some running down. Has been airborne this prep and comes off a 4L romp last start. Can measure up here.

(6) Blondeau looks the bet of the card in my opinion. Think this horse has finally turned the corner after teasing so much ability early on. His first up win was very impressive and usually goes even better 2nd up. This race is no harder than he faced last start and can’t see too many queries today.

(2) I Am Power ran 2nd to Blondeau last start in his first start in Australia after a long lay off. Will only improve from that and looks the main danger

(6) Exotic Ruby is as honest as they come and is yet to miss the placings 2nd up. Ran a very good 3rd behind Stellar Pauline and April rain last start and that form looks good enough for this.

(5) Cafe Royal bolted in fresh in a weaker race and deserves her chance in this grade now. Is building a good record and stable usually is strong when bringing one to town.

Can make a case for (4) Mira Vision who flies fresh but just needs to measure up in Saturday grade now.

(7) Turnstyle bolted in last start after going straight to the lead and will be hard to beat again. Happy to play around him though.

(2) Maranoa looks well placed here and very hard to beat. Only very lightly raced and looks a horse who can progress through the grades and onto bigger and better things. Should go straight to the lead and will take some catching with a nice claim.

(9) Green Flash ran 2nd to Grace And Harmony last start and that form looks better and better every week. That horse since came out and won the Gold Coast Bracelet and Green Flash should be suited here getting out to 2000m.

(15) Outlook will be well suited getting out to 2000m and has been very good this prep. Only narrowly beaten last start and has plenty of ability.

Think (14) Parry Sound is ready to peak 4th up after a couple of very good runs. Gets in light here and will enjoy the right run from barrier 3.

(2) Polly Grey has been racing well and comes into this off the back of a very good win at Gosford over 2100m. The wetter the better.

(13) Knights Order will be a big improver 2nd up. Finds a weaker race here than last start, and always performs better with a run under his belt. Will roll forward and look the winner at some stage.

Pretty keen to be with (11) Ellsberg who looks well suited getting up to 1500m here 3rd up from a spell. Took a sit last start and probably wasn’t completely suited in doing so. Think they will go straight to the front today from the low draw and Tim Clark is the perfect booking to get this horse home.

(14) Archanna has always shown plenty of promise and was good running 3rd last start in the inferior ground on the day. Has had a little freshen up since then and her best form will see her giving this a shake.

(8) Kirwins Lane hit the line well fresh and should be fitter for that. Has been competitive in these sorts of races and should be able to settle handy today.

Tough finish to the day but I am happy to side with the top weight in (1) Approach Discreet. Has been in the flying form this prep with a big return fresh before a solid 3rd. Looks to now get to a suitable trip 3rd up and the 3kg claim is a big positive. Loves the trip and has had plenty of success going the Sydney way.

(5) Steely is airborne, working his way through the grades nicely this prep. Chases a third straight win here and providing he hasn’t come to the end of his prep, can go close again.

(6) Tooradin has to cope stepping out to this trip for the first time but is another horse who has come back in flying order. Was a very good win last start when wide at Warnambool but still way too good. Can measure up.

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
