Sunday racing comes to Sale where we have a Good 4 track and an eight race card. It’s a pretty average looking bunch of races; however The Horse has found a couple of favourites which can hopefully top-up our bank accounts.

This is another race where three main runners grab my attention. The Laming trained horse (4) Shoot For Coomaah has had 26 starts for 4 wins and 7 places. Been consistently racing in the 58-64bm grades and has shown to be competitive in this grade, albeit not winning. Laura Lafferty has been on for the past few rides and sticks on board today. His best has come on Good tracks which he gets today also. At $7.00 he offers a reasonable each-way price.

(10) Alloway steps up after winning a maiden race in Benalla. He was favourite that day and didn’t disappoint winning by around 3 lengths. The jump to bm64, skipping the traditional bm58, is the query – but admittedly, this is a pretty weak race. If he takes any improvement he can be winning again.

Likewise, (5) Oh So Skeptical who won last start in a bm58 race at Bairnsdale. Interestingly he tackled a bm90 at Flemington first-up dropping back to bm58 grade. His two performances in bm64 grade were last places (last preparation) so his form has been somewhat unpredictable. He has done his best work on Soft tracks, but I cannot help but feel the Brown stable must have a decent wrap on him.

Happy to have the favourite (3) Office Jim who has been racing well enough to chalk up another win. 12 starts for 2 wins and 6 places, he made the jump last prep from maiden to bm64 grade and was not disgraced. He has comes back winning a bm58 and coming fourth in a bm64. That day he came from ninth to reel most of them in. The slight step up in distance is a positive, but he likes the sting out of the track.

I did not mind the previous preparation form of (7) Reactor before he seemed to go off the boil. He looked to have some potential, and since coming back, he went okay first-up despite missing the start. He could go better today with the claim and may sneak a place. Peanut for the win.

The Horse

The Horse found the thought of placing bets and drinking beers much more appealing once he was married, and that led to an interest in the many intricacies of The Great Game. He enjoys the challenge of predicting what will happen in any given race, but also loves horses themselves, none more so than the mighty mudlark Jungle Edge. His focus lies on metropolitan racing in Victoria and NSW, however isn’t afraid to find one out wide. Away from racing, The Horse is an avid drummer – quite a difficult task with a set of hooves.
