(14) Tempest Charm is bursting to win a race, having hit the line very well for 2nd last start. The query is stepping to 1500m given her run two back over 1300m was a bit plain with every chance.

(5) Moktaffy was one paced at his Australian debut. He only gets an extra 100m but has upside to improve, and the run wasn’t bad. A faster run race likely also brings out improvement.

(13) Miss Moonshine was solid on debut and can improve.

Tip: (14) Tempest Charm- $2.15 at Sportsbet

(2) Pagan on top. His debut effort was very good, racing wide without cover in a genuinely run race, working through the line well for 2nd in a maiden that has proved to be a very strong form line. He’s trialled well since then, steps up in trip and with any luck from the barrier will be hard to beat.

(11) Saviona was solid on resumption at 1300m and should be fitter for that. She’ll likely be spotting Pagan a head start if they ride her conservatively from the wide gate as they did first up, but she’ll be running on.

(10) Newly Wed was good on debut in the same race and maps for a sweet run behind the speed.

Tip: (2) Pagan- $3.10 at Ladbrokes

Siding with (6) Seonee who should appreciate getting out to the mile 3rd up. She got too far back first up over 1200m at $1.50, charging into 2nd, before getting the maiden out of the way with relative ease over 1450m at $1.35, with big gaps back to 3rd. The 2nd horse was on debut and easily broke her maiden at her next start. The small field is tricky, but I think she’s got a good enough turn of foot to win.

(3) Soarhi was solid at The Valley in a slowly run race. He should be fine at 1600m, especially if it’s slowly run again.

(1) Can’t Go Wong won well on debut and off that run the mile will be fine.

Tip: (6) Seonee- $2.70 at Sportsbet

With (4) Rising drawn barrier 1 and Linda Meech to ride, expect this I Am Invincible colt to take plenty of running down. He was dominant at Stawell on debut, winning by 5.3L under hands and heels. This is obviously much harder but he can go straight to the front and be hard to beat again.

(7) Airclash could have to work a bit early from the wide gate but will look to come across. He had to do a bit of work last start at Mornington but fought well to gap 3rd in a strong maiden win.

(3) Corona Lad finished well to win on debut at Hamilton. If he can get onto the back of one he’ll be the closer again.

(3) Tigertiger is airborne and remarkably consistent. He turned the margin on Saving from The Valley around by 11L last start over this T/D in a dominant win. They’ve opted to put on the claimer which is a small query- I thought he’d be better off carrying the 62kg.

(6) Annunciate loomed into the same race here last start very well and then gassed out late. He can only be fitter but might be looking for the jumps now.

(10) Miss Five Hundred is jumping quite sharply in trip and is only 3rd up but her best form would be very competitive here.

(2) Coup De Tonnerre next best after a strong effort last start.

(1) Tycoon Bec clearly comes out of the best race on Pakenham Cup day won by Lyrical Lad who is flying. The 2nd horse, High ‘n’ Dry has come out and won nicely at Flemington on Saturday. Tycoon Bec led there and got no peace, with the trifecta coming from the last 3 spots in run at the 800m. The first up run was good, and her 3rd up win last prep was very good.

(3) Zancada is racing well. He should’ve probably won last start at Geelong in a bunched finish but may perhaps be looking for a bit further now.

(7) French Moon was a bit disappointing last start when well backed. He’ll definitely appreciate more ground but gets back and needs to perform.

Having something on (12) It’s Tornado Storm at a decent price. The second up win was very good at Geelong and he didn’t have much luck when wide without cover throughout last start on a tough day to make ground. Up to 1500m and finally drawing a gate can see him land closer and run well.

(13) Sheer Treasure was given a great swooper’s ride two back to win at The Valley before a fair effort last start. He’ll get back again but Sandown should suit.

(2) Adandiman was close up in a bm70 here last start and despite the rise in weight maps for a soft run and should be thereabouts.

(1) Ears The Barman has a very good fresh record, winning his last 3 first up runs, often in stronger grade. He’s also 1/1 at the T/D and 3:2-1-0 at the 1300m. He’ll get back and charge to the line.

(4) Nicolini Vito is the other at a good price. He tried hard behind Savannah Cloud last start at The Valley despite racing wide at times. He’s only seen 1400m once but it was on a heavy track which he didn’t handle so I think it should be fine.

(3) Here To Shock has the talent given he took on group 1 races last prep. His first up win last prep was dominant and he’s trialled well, but he does draw very wide.

Tip: (4) Nicolini Vito- $7.50 at TAB

Value: (1) Ears The Barman- $11.00 at Bet365

Betting Strategy: 0.75 units WIN Nicolini Vito, 0.5 units WIN Ears The Barman

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
