Happy to side with (1) Jonny Angel in the opener. He’s had a few chances but is bursting for a win. His run two back behind Real Gun at Caulfield is good enough for this, and last start he tried hard but couldn’t get past the leader who carried 3.5kg less. He gets D Lane on and this looks the ideal race.
(5) Ord has been rolled at short odds his last two, including at $1.35 over 1400m last start. He’s been freshened for this and is an obvious chance, but at the longer odds I’d rather be with Jonny Angel.
(4) Cranc next best on debut for the Maher & Eustace camp. He might get back from the barrier but was good late in a jumpout.

(1) D’jumbuck looks the hardest to beat. Two starts ago he sat just off Diamonds In the Sky and ran a 0.1L 2nd, with that horse winning a bm64 since. Last start, D’jumbuck over raced a bit on a good speed and ran well, beaten by a couple of swoopers. He’ll go forward from barrier 9 which has been beneficial at this track recently.
(8) Media Statement struggled on debut last prep when $3.10 in a handy race. Thornton and Waller are a good combo at the moment and the jumpout was solid.
(5) Rubiland is the improver. I didn’t mind the debut when getting back in the field from barrier 9, running on well for 5th. The step up to 1300m is a huge tick, it’s just where he gets to from barrier 2. Olly going on looks a solid lead, and if he can hold a spot from barrier 2 I think he’ll be right in the finish.

I think (9) Orchestrate can settle closer from barrier 5 up to 1400, and if that’s the case I think she’ll be hard to beat. She just got too far back last start from a wide gate, in a race where the quinella were the leader and leader’s back. She started $3.80 favourite there and the form out of it has been solid. Vespertine ran 2nd there and was a big run for 3rd at Caulfield in a stronger race, and War Critic has won a strong class 1 since.
(4) Setanta looks the danger. He’s a well-bred, expensive colt that finally showed a glimpse of talent last start when dominating at Warrnambool. The 2nd horse there ran okay for 3rd at Benalla on Tuesday, but I think that race was just about Setanta and whether he can keep progressing.
(5) Good And Proper might get too far back but gets D Lane and was a good run last start.
(1) Bottmingen should go forward and potentially even lead from barrier 10. He couldn’t get into the race at Moonee Valley when hard in the market against Sayumi and Real Gun, but a positive ride last start resulted in a strong win, with a big gap back to 3rd.

(3) Darvin looks the one ready to win. The run first up was okay when unfit and looking for further, but he elevated significantly last start, running the fastest final 200m in a similar race. Third up now, at 2400m, he’s the one with the most improvement to come which should see him go close.
(1) Tarn’s Prince is the danger, although there is a slight query on him at 2400m. His only run at the trip was a 4.5L 5th in a fairly average 3yo staying race. His form reads well, and he’ll go forward from the gate.
(4) Dashing Tycoon probably should’ve beaten Darvin last start when held up in the straight. He started $7 to Darvin’s $31 so the case can easily be made he’s the better value at $5 each, but he shouldn’t have as much improvement to come.
(5) Medieval Miss had the perfect run last start but was a good run for 3rd in a stronger race. She drops in grade for this but could get back in the field here.

(7) Prism probably deserves to be favourite, coming off consecutive 2nd placings. He’ll go forward again and gets Will Price’s claim, but he’s only won 3 races and has had plenty of chances.
(6) Hit Reset won easily first up off a long break and I thought she was strong 2nd up in a slightly tougher race, sitting outside the leader and fighting on for 5th, beaten under a length by Indispensable and Whittington Stone.
(4) Holster got the win for us last start and looks the value play. The run first up behind Typhoon Harmony was good when making late ground, and he managed to get the win last start, beating subsequent winner Pacific Rim. He looked a bit lost when he hit the front last start, so with a stalking ride just off the speed he can elevate further. He’s clearly talented enough, with a $1.90 SP and narrow 2nd to Hit The Shot last prep.
(1) Campese looks short enough stepping up to 1600m, which he’s never seen before and I’m not convinced he’ll run.

(11) It’sourtime looks hard to beat. The race was run to suit on debut, but the win was very strong coming from near last at the 400m to win well. The 3rd horse has won since and the 2nd horse was well backed to win its next start. There was nearly 5L back from 3rd to 4th, he just needs the right run and the track to be playing fair to be too strong late.
(1) Faretti is the interesting runner. He showed a stack of talent early days but has gone off the rails since. His best is certainly good enough but he’s a hard horse to back with so many unknowns. He will go forward though and give himself every chance.
(10) Infinite Matrix could be the other on pace horse, resuming from a spell. He’s only had three starts and has finished top 2 in all of them. He comes here without a jumpout for the new stable which is interesting.
(6) Legend Of Zorro can improve 2nd up but may be looking for a bit further now.

Good race but very open. (8) Thunder Peak closed steadily at Flemington last start, running the fastest last 600m of the race in a slightly stronger race. She gets the blinkers on and Kah sticks.
(5) Savalona led all the way on debut at Colac and was unlucky at Geelong last start when held up from barrier 2. Olly sticks and she can go well here.
(3) Awapuni Princess was an impressive but very green winner on debut. She couldn’t quite reel in the winner last start in a small field but should be better suited here in a bigger field. She probably gets back from barrier 8 which is the query.
(2) Alternate was a solid winner on debut and it wouldn’t shock to see her make the grade.
Found this incredibly tough with a couple of runners likely to get back and need the right race shape. Happy to stay out from a betting point of view.

I said last start that it was never again for (1) Excelida who has burnt me by placing at her last three starts, and I’m sticking by it here. She just keeps giving herself too much to do and flashing late. She has won at this T/D and I think the 1300m will suit, but she’s had enough chances and there looks a bet in the race outside of her.
I speak of (6) Need New Friends who looks set for this race. She ran 2nd by a nose first up when wide, and again ran 2nd off a wide run last start at Caulfield. The key here is the map, because she looks to get a lovely run on speed. 3rd up now with Lane sticking, she should be going close.
(3) Don’ttelltheboss was a good winner first up but failed in the Caulfield race last start. She can improve drawn out a bit here and up in trip.
(8) Goolagong Rose next best coming off a solid win at this T/D in an easier race.
Need New Friends looks hard to beat, and Excelida really looks the only danger. Hopefully we’re on the right side of her today.
