Tough race to start the day but I have landed with (1) Blue Sky Moon on debut. He was really extended in his first trial and really didn’t look like he was suited to the wet track. He was given a 21 week break before coming back at the end of December for a trial on the synthetic at Warwick Farm where he was well held all the way through and looked in good shape. 1200m first-up is going to be tough with only one trial under his belt, but I am banking on the stable running well first-up.
(7) Doppelpunkt is a short favourite and is coming in with two starts under her belt. She can be forgiven for her last start fourth at Canterbury. She did well despite not being a factor and will come on nicely for that run.
(4) Stark is a good bet each-way and for the exotics. Two trials at narrow tracks will have him firing fit for this first-up assignment and will likely be forward throughout the race.

(1) Kaptive was awkwardly drawn I thought first-up at Canterbury but closed off really well behind April Rain, despite being beaten 3.8 lengths in second. I am keen to see how he goes on top of the ground and Tommy Berry should be able to sit him a touch closer from a much kinder barrier. Won’t be betting at the odds.
(5) Bytact is the danger after being gelded and being very well held in a 1030m trial recently. Josh Parr is the right man for the job and will no doubt be forward from the wide draw. Good each way odds.
(3) Deliberation didn’t handle the going last start and gets the blinkers for the first time. Expect significant improvement.

I thought she was very game last start behind Deel Street and recent mid-week winner Shivani last start at Newcastle. (9) Correlate was forced to run with no plates on its back feet for the race due to losing the off-hind plate before race start. She comes into this third-up on the back of two good runs and again tackles the 1350m. She will go forward from the wide gate and Josh Parr should be able to sit outside likely leader (5) Princess Amira or even just behind, should he choose to do so.
(11) Danzette will no doubt stalk the leaders from a decent draw. If the leaders do too much early, this girl could be worth a speck at nice each-way odds, especially with three runs already under her belt.
I thought (7) Blaze Seven was poor first-up so expect improvement.

This is a very shallow maiden race and I expect (9) Sniper Legend to be too good for these. He has trialled up nicely, hitting the line well in his first trial behind a couple of nice two-year-old’s in Remarque and Ranch Hand before sitting in a more forward roll in his second trial and again finished the trial off well enough. The draw is a concern, but I expect him to be within range for an attack around the bend before streaking away in the short straight.
If there is any danger, (1) Delexo would be it. Has won all three trials over 800m, 1000m and 1000m in preparation for this, so you know he is fit. He is drawn ideally to streak forward and will be the one to catch, especially if (9) Sniper Legend gets into trouble or doesn’t handle Wyong.
(3) Press Ahead is probably the best of the rest.

I know it is only trial form but (1) Quatum has trialled like a bomb in the lead up to this race and is a deserved favourite in a very narrow class 1. In his first trial, he accelerated early and maintained a massive lead to salute in the trial by seven lengths before having a nice hit out over the 1045m despite not overly handling the soft going well. He is back on top of the ground for his first-up assignment and is draw ideally to either lead or box seat.
(3) Colonel is the main danger and will likely be the one fighting our top pick for the lead. He has had a nine week break and no public trials so he may be a touch vulnerable if taken on.
(5) Unearthed is the best of the rest and to be included in the exotics.

I think (4) Siesta Key is a touch over the odds and I am happy to have her on top. She ran well at Taree two back saluting on the heavy going by 1.5 lengths and then looked all but the winner last start at the same track. She was beaten in the shadows of the post by the $1.45 favourite and stable mate No Laughing Matter despite looking the winner on the line and carrying a solid 3kg more. Back on top of the ground and the 3kg claim of Dylan Gibbons are big ticks and the good draw means she should be able to sit in a forward position.
(2) Debari is a deserved favourite after a solid first-up performance behind Deference. He will appreciate having the run under his belt and this will be by far the easiest grade he has been in for some time. He is yet to perform well on a good track which is a slight query.
(8) Undoubted will be hitting the line nicely and I wouldn’t be leaving him out of your exotics.

I don’t have a lot of confidence in this race being an all-apprentices race but (5) No Laughing Matter looks the one I want to be with. Dylan Gibbons rode her two starts ago when she romped home at Taree by four lengths before winning in a tight go last start with Avdulla aboard. Gibbons is back on for this one and she is drawn ideally to be able to sit wherever he pleases on the filly. With plenty of fitness under her belt and being back on top of the ground, I think it gives her the best shot possible to make it three in a row.
(2) Never Never River would be a good bet had they drawn a closer barrier. Putting a line through the last run and being back on top of the ground enhances his chances. Expect plenty of improvement but I expect too much work will be done early.
(3) Split Not A Shock will be one for the exotic players and should be hitting the line nicely late in the race.
