Scone gets the privilege of hosting racing this Thursday with a brilliant eight race card.

The Hunter Valley hosts some exciting racing week in and week out, with Scone one of the best country tracks in New South Wales

(2) Miss Powerbelle came back after 254 days on the sideline for a new stable and I believe the task was just too hard carrying 60kg in a benchmark 66 first-up. She has since had 31 weeks on the sideline and had two trials in preparation for this first-up run. She was asked to do little in her first trial with the margin exaggerated due to the horses at the front end of the trial having a proper hit out. In her latest trial she led the entire way over 1000m and was tightly held to the line against fellow stablemate and highly rated Step On Fire. I think she is ready to tackle this 900m scamper first-up, especially being so well weighted in a class 2. She is drawn well, so expect Christian Reith to sit right on the tails of the leaders before getting her through her gears in the straight.

(1) Urbino has been given a good horses weight here and looks to still get in nicely with the 2kg claim of Dylan Gibbons. The Dansili gelding should have finished a lot closer in his run at Doomben last start over the 2200m, where he was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight. Despite this, he still finished in third, 1.8 lengths off the winner. He has proven in the past to be able to carry this sort of weight in staying races and drops back from his benchmark 78 in Queensland to a benchmark 66 in country New South Wales. I expect him to sit midfield from the draw and to get the charm run throughout before getting into his work just prior to the straight. Providing he doesn’t have any bad luck, he will be right in the finish.

This is a weak country maiden plate, and we have a city placed maiden horse running around in this race with only 55.5kg. (13) Windsweep can be forgiven for her last start failure at Canterbury where she was caught three wide without cover and failed to finish off the well. She will be fighting fit here being her fourth run this preparation and is drawn to get a sweet run just behind the leaders. I think being back on top of the ground is going to suit her and I will be very surprised if she goes under here.
