There are a few back-to-back races with short priced favourites that look pretty likely, Cop A Clip in Race 2 for example. While she looked likely, I prefer to take the better odds on the favourite in this race (4) Mr Eighty Eight. Heralding from the Maher/Eustace stable and having only his second start, he ran second at Colac last month. Trusting that he has come on since that run, and faces a few horses that have been struggling to break through (despite their respective places in similar races).

(3) High Maintenance has been consistent without winning, while (1) Doom Power is overdue.

(13) Golden Loop looks like the best bet of the day—but at $1.50 you’re going to be pretty keen to get overly involved. The Price/Kent runner has run consecutive places in his last two starts, including a second at Caulfield. He came from seventh in running to be beaten by a couple of lengths by the winner but still showed plenty of promise. The increase in distance is a positive and we can expect him to land closer in the running in a smallish field. Include in multiples.

A second place in a bm64 last start looks reasonable enough form for (2) Kansino to get another win here. She lugs the 61.5kgs today but that isn’t too bad when considering the relative weights. She has had 7 starts for 1 win and 3 places, and gains the services of Ethan Brown. The wide gate is a touch annoying, but she should have the pace to come across and land alongside or just behind the leaders.

The leader may be (1) Achaeus, and at double figure odds, is the threat. A consistent gelding who took a while to break the maiden, but can go on with it.

The Horse

The Horse found the thought of placing bets and drinking beers much more appealing once he was married, and that led to an interest in the many intricacies of The Great Game. He enjoys the challenge of predicting what will happen in any given race, but also loves horses themselves, none more so than the mighty mudlark Jungle Edge. His focus lies on metropolitan racing in Victoria and NSW, however isn’t afraid to find one out wide. Away from racing, The Horse is an avid drummer – quite a difficult task with a set of hooves.
