It’s Wagga Gold Cup Day and the sun will be shining once again after a cracking day of racing yesterday.

There’s 8 races on the card today where the track is rated a good 4 and the rail is in the true position again.

(11) Loving Cilla was last seen finishing 8th in a strong highway race at Randwick following some very good performances to start her career. Showed enough talent in her first prep to be a big watch here today and hasn’t been seen at the trials. Think she can only improve from that debut prep and will give this a good shake.

(2) Villianaire led up a similar field to this last start and was only grabbed late on. Should appreciate the step up to 1300m now and will only present fitter today.

Need to be wary of the Hayes runner (3) Defence Force who has been building nicely this prep. Drops back in grade for this and can win with luck from the wide draw.

No amazing odds but (5) Splendiferous looks one of the better bets of the day. Has come back in flying form going straight to the lead in his last two and giving nothing else a chance. Takes a small step up in grade but can see him progressing further than a race of this quality. Nash to ride is an obvious tick.

(3) Charm Wing will be another who rolls forward and was a very good winner last time out. Probably sits just off Splendiferous and has a good turn of foot.

Very keen on (11) Kings Trust here who drops back in grade after a very good 3rd in a strong Class 3 at Randwick. Arguably should have won that race and now finds Berry. Is a winner 2nd up before and if he can slot in from the gate he will be winning.

(18) Mad As Zariz is a consistent horse and is knocking on the door after two solid 2nds this prep. Steps up to 1200m where he has won at before and will enjoy a nice run up near the speed.

(4) Onthetake continues to race well and was a close 2nd to Zelify last start which is good form for this. Can run a good race.

The feature race of the day comes up here with the Wagga Cup. A quality field has been assembled and there looks a couple of key winning chances.

(4) Paths Of Glory comes into this off the back of a strong win in the JRA Plate over this trip. He beat Zaaki that day who is highly regarded and goes around a winning chance in a G2 on Saturday. Gets up in the weights but is racing well and should enjoy run of the race from the draw.

(6) Yonkers is flying and is a deserved favourite on the back of a 5 length win at Caulfield. Gets in well at the weights and loves the trip. Will just need some luck from the wide draw.

(2) Spirit Ridge drops way back in trip here after not running out the 3200m in the Sydney Cup. Much more suited here today and will be up on speed and look the winner for a long way.

(7) Knights Order looks the best roughie for mine. Has struggled fresh previously but will roll forward and give a good sight over his most preferred distance.

Billy Bestford

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
