It’s an eight-race card today at Warrnambool and The Horse has found a couple of runners to itch the scratch between Oaks Day and Stakes Day.

There is an eight-race card today at Warrnambool with three maidens, three bm58s and two bm64s.

The Price & Kent stable look to have a strong hand with chances in the opening three races.

Thankfully we only contend with three maidens today at Warrnambool.

The first sees the Price & Kent runner (4) Master Bartholdi step back slightly in grade to face a handful of average horses. Star country jockey Dean Yendall is in the saddle. Has enough pace to come across from the outside gate and find a nice spot in running. If there is any improvement from the first preparation he should be too classy here first up.

The threat will come from the Simon Wilde runner (11) Queen Zyrah who ran well first up and will come on further.

Sticking with another Kent & Price stable runner in (7) Spring Break here (they could have a great day out). The overall field is pretty weak – and most of them have had their chances to win a race if they had have been goo enough. Spring Break just appears to be the one that may be most likely to take that step. Gets a rough gate which could be the issue. Was a touch unlucky first up and we can expect the odds to shorten.

The one at double figure odds is (9) Nobel Heights who could improve sharply after running behind Facemask.

Going against the favourite (6) Zorros Dream despite four recent places. He has struggled to break through this grade and might just find another one slightly better here today. He gets an outside draw and will drop back.

On his immediate inside is (10) Rolls who conversely has the early speed to come across. Previous form includes a last-race second to Numerate. He has John Allen in the saddle which is another positive. Rolls is already proven at this grade, distance and track. It looks like the ideal race for him to put another win against his name. Top rated horse and a great chance.

The Horse

The Horse found the thought of placing bets and drinking beers much more appealing once he was married, and that led to an interest in the many intricacies of The Great Game. He enjoys the challenge of predicting what will happen in any given race, but also loves horses themselves, none more so than the mighty mudlark Jungle Edge. His focus lies on metropolitan racing in Victoria and NSW, however isn’t afraid to find one out wide. Away from racing, The Horse is an avid drummer – quite a difficult task with a set of hooves.
