The two-year old’s kick off the day at Rosehill and it is really hard to go past the short priced favourite (7) Remarque. The well-bred son of Snitzel is coming into this race on the back of two impressive trials. In the first trial, he was ridden out and easily conquered one of the fancied runners in the Magic Millions in Ranch Hand before showing his brilliant acceleration in the second trial. The only issue is the barrier and if there is any bias at Rosehill, so hopefully he will have the class to overcome any obstacles.
(8) Revivalist is another that trialled well and is drawn a lot better than his rival (7) Remarque. In his latest trial, he showed a nice kick late in the trial to show he has some sort of ability, but as we all know, race day can bring a lot unstuck early on.
(11) Zethus would be the best of the rest.

Although there are only seven runners in this race, it was a tough race to analyse. I have sided with (7) The Bopper after a nice preparation in October where he suffered his first defeat on resumption, where he did do a little bit of work early which maybe tolled towards the finish. He then come out and lead the entire way at Randwick to salute by 1.8 lengths in the Brian Crowley Stakes before being tipped out for a break. He has since trialled once which was very good and will no doubt have plenty of improvement to come. I expect Rachel King to stroll forward from a nice draw and be right in the finish.
(3) Tailleur is returning from a freshen up after a shock defeat to Snapdancer around a month ago. She has since had a trial where she was well held but she did her job. The query here is the synthetic hoof filler, which would be helping an underlying issue and that’s not something you want to read going into race day. It may just help her handle the dryer surface, but I guess we will just wait and see. She does have the fitness advantage over (7) The Bopper but will likely give him a start.
(5) Lashes trialled like a bomb since her last start placing, saluting in the tick over trial by 5.3 lengths. She may try to sit a bit closer in the run from the draw with her fitness edge and I am sure Tommy Berry will give her every chance.

We all love the Highway races, and they can throw up some decent results and some absolute shockers. I am willing to put a line through the last start run of (7) Mother’s Mercy despite the fact she wasn’t disgraced running 3.6 lengths back in seventh. The query was always going to be if she could handle the conditions and although the stewards report stated that she didn’t handle the going, I thought she did quite well considering. Back on top of the ground is a big tick though she has drawn poorly which may just push her price out for us. Highway races always have too much speed, even if there isn’t much on paper, which will bring our girl right into this. I am expecting a solid run, especially now the bar plates have been removed and we could get a nice price.
(4) Proven Class will be giving them a start no doubt but as I mentioned before, the speed could/should bring her right into this. She was held up in key stages last start and probably should have finished closer than 1.6 lengths back in sixth. She has been freshened up for this and drops back from 1800m to 1500m which does pose a little concern.
(2) Rockarosa will be thereabouts third-up and will comfortably handle the step up to 1500m from 1200m. The weight may be the issue late in the race but there is no doubting her class.

This is a pretty thin race with only a couple of chances. (5) Harpo Marx was very game in his 0.6 length placing at Kensington. He came with a nice run up the outside whilst the eventually winner took the short-cut up the inside. I love that they have kept him in the same grade but stepped him back to 2000m, where we will see a much better run, especially with a good surface. From the nice draw, expect Rachel King to take her time early and ensure he lands somewhere off the fence to avoid trouble. He will be hard to stop with the right run.
(3) Zachaz is one I have to be weary of as they don’t bring them up from Victoria for a picnic. He failed as favourite last start at Caulfield but won nicely the start before at Pakenham. It will be interesting to see what tactics they use from the inside draw and I would be including it in all your exotics.
(2) Criminal Code gets up to 2000m for the first time this preparation and is on the quick back-up. Back on a proper dry surface will suit him down to the ground and Tommy Berry should be able to get him into a nice spot from the draw.

Going with the form behind All Time Legend here and I have sided with (6) He’s A Hotshot. They wanted to settle a bit closer than they wanted to last start but as Rachel King stated in the stewards’ report, she was caught wide in the early stages and had to find cover which subsequently put him further back than she wanted. He come home nicely though, 2.7 lengths back in third and only 0.2 length off his rival (3) Lancaster Bomber who led nearly the entire way. Our bloke is drawn well here to be able to sit predominantly throughout the race and with a dry track, he will be in the finish.
(3) Lancaster Bomber did well to hold on as long as he did last start and will no doubt be thereabouts again. He was supposed to be ridden with cover last start and led, so I think this start they will look for cover from the barrier. You can’t deny his form at the moment.
(8) Liberty Sun is drawn nicely and comes right into this race if the track plays leaderish. He was impressive on the heavy going at Gosford, saluting by just under a length. He is fit, back on top of the ground and is drawn well, he could run a bold race at the each-way price.

A lot of early money has come in for (5) Zoffany’s Lad and the price copped a beating with the scratching of Ellsberg. I think this is the fourth time I have Rachel King’s ride on top, so hopefully she has a big day. Back onto topic, (5) Zoffany’s Lad was blocked at a crucial stage last start before getting out and fighting to the line. He did look to peak a touch late in the piece first-up and will come on nicely here for the 1500m assignment. He has drawn barrier 1 which is ideal in this smallish field and with no speed in the race, he should be able to sit a bit closer in the run behind the leader. He has proved himself in town in this grade and being back on top of the ground will ensure he will be fighting out the finish.
I think (4) Trajection will show an improved run to her last start seventh in the Provincial Series Summer Final at Wyong on the heavy going. She is back on top of the ground and in a small field, she shouldn’t get too far off them. Watch for her late.
(3) Canasta looks the likely leader and not much competition for it. He has trialled up nicely and will be very forward for his first-up assignment. He gets a good track and has Josh Parr aboard, so he will get every chance in front. If he can get some cheap sectionals, he might be hard to run down.

Another race in and another race I will be playing around two runners. (8) Shaik ran well first-up at Kembla Grange before saluting nicely at Warwick Farm by a length over the 1100m. She was expected to run well on the day and the quality she beat on the day wasn’t high. This is another kettle of fish but she is at the right price to see just how much she has come on.
(6) Blaze A Trail is the one I am excited for, returning on a good surface. He broke his maiden status at Hawkesbury last preparation before handling the opposition nicely at Newcastle by 2.8 lengths. He has since trialled up nicely and gets Rachel King aboard (that’s her name again!), so I expect a forward ride from the draw to put himself into this race. For a horse that ran so well in the Golden Gift in his first race start, the price on offer is overs and if he returns well, I am sure there are bigger targets in mind.
I thought (3) Bluff ‘N’ Bluster can run another solid race and I wouldn’t be leaving him out of any exotics.

This horse keeps stepping up to the mark and I expect her to be right in the race once again. (6) Never Talk has been nothing but impressive and show an electric turn of foot last start on the heavy going at Kensington beating a lot of rivals that she faces today. Before that run, she failed at Warwick Farm and with no excuses offered was she just plain on the day or does she prefer a softer going. Guess we will find out today.
(9) Sally’s Day was all but the winner last start before being overrun by Our Bellagio Miss. She has been freshened up from that run with no trials in between. Drawn poorly so Kerrin McEvoy will have to use all his skills to ensure she gets a nice run throughout and come late in the piece.
(5) Lillemor comes into the numbers purely based on the prediction that the track could play leaderish. She gets a 2kg claim of Louise Day and will stroll forward from barrier 8 and give them something to catch.

(8) Private Eye has been nothing short of impressive this preparation and the Joe Pride stable has done a terrific job of keeping a lid on him and moving him through the grades at a nice rate. The gelding is going for win number four this preparation and five in a row overall and looks set to achieve this today. He showed a nice change of gears at Kensington last start, saluting by 1.5 lengths on the heavy going. He is back on top of the ground here which isn’t an issue and drops 2kg whilst stepping up in grade. He hasn’t got a ceiling yet and I am happy to travel along with him.
(5) Smart Image will look to put his last start fifth placing behind him and gets the blinkers for the first time. He will appreciate being back on top of the ground, though where he gets to from the draw could prove the difference in how competitive he will be.
Despite the poor draw, (6) Starla could run a nice race at the price. She ran credible last start behind Dunbrody Power and the start before behind Snapdancer and Tailleur, which stacks up well for this race. If she can get a nice run and Collett rides for luck, she is a knockout chance.
