There are many debutants here, but all eyes will be fixed on (1) Forbes here as they look to target bigger things. His debut at Sandown was very good as he was run down by Blue Diamond placed Anamoe after looking the winner 100m out. The son of Capitalist has since trialled at Goulburn where he was given a good hit out, winning the trial by 9.7 lengths after a couple of hits with the persuader. With targets like the Black Opal and Golden Slipper, he would want to be running well and or winning this despite the wide draw. He looks a cut above.
(3) Mazu has trialled up nicely and looks a nice type going forward. Much like his rival Forbes he is drawn off the track but will likely follow him into the race as I expect them both to be going forward.
(7) Emerald Bay looks the best of the rest and will likely be in a forward position from a decent draw.

With nominations down the track for the Group 1 Coolmore Legacy and the Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint, the daughter of All Too Hard will need to make light work of her opposition here. (4) Jenga was scratched from last Friday likely due to the barrier draw but it may have also been because of the predicted rain which never came. She is drawn much better here to either box seat or lead with her good gate speed and only stepping up to a benchmark 64 looks an ideal move. She cruised to a victory in her lone race start and is definitely capable of better.
(9) Seleque is coming off a nice win at Warwick Farm which has seen the form stand up nicely. She won’t be leading here but will get a nice run should she choose to follow Jenga across. It is likely she will come on nicely from that run and is good each-way odds for the exotics.
(2) Patrolling is another who should be in the front group but will likely settle just off them. He has had two nice trials in the lead up to this and should be forward enough to be competitive.

(1) Mightybeel does look the one here after an impressive 4.75 lengths win here a fortnight ago to break his maiden status. It was a well-timed ride by James McDonald, starting his run at the 600m mark and he had put the race to bed as they entered the straight. I am expecting something similar here despite an awkward draw. I have him settling sixth off the fence which will be perfect to replicate his last start performance and he gives every indication that 1900m will suit him down to the ground.
(4) Van Gogh will likely lead this race from a favourable draw and if it is hard to make ground, he will look the one. He has been running around in the country/provincials and needs to take the next step to be competitive.
(2) Duty isn’t well off at the weights, but he proved last start that this sort of distance range won’t worry him. Josh Parr is aboard which is a master move and will likely head forward also from the wide draw.

Taking the risk a bit here with (10) Noble Soldier up in grade but he comes out of a nice 1000m race at Goulburn and ran some terrific figures late to miss out by around half a length in second. They have drawn well here so it wouldn’t surprise me to see them in a more prominent position, especially with the massive weight drop from 59.5kg to 53.5kg with the claim of Brock Ryan. He enters his third run this preparation and the step up in distance is probably the right move. He is worth an each-way bet.
(4) Jailbreak is returning after two solid trials at Dubbo and should be ready to go first-up. His run at Kensington before his break is one to forget for punters after being backed in and should find this an easier race. He will run a credible race and I am eager to see him return.
(6) Born A Warrior comes into the mix if the track plays fairly.

(4) Fill of Fun is coming off a nice run 9 days ago where he took Toscanini all the way to the line, going down by just over half a length in third. The run before I put a line through as he isn’t a back marker and was ridden upside down due to his barrier draw. He gets a nice barrier to sit prominently once again and will likely hold the rails throughout whether that be in the lead or just behind the leader. He has come up nice odds once again and with Tommy Berry aboard, does look a bet once again.
(2) Major Artie just keeps stepping up and fighting like a bulldog. He goes up 1.5kg from his win here over 1550m last time out and will be looking for a hat-trick of wins. 1900m shouldn’t be an issue for his toughness and should be thereabouts again.
(3) Dalmatia Prince goes into the numbers at good each-way odds based on his likely map and the weight he will have to carry after the claim. Good selection for the exotics.

This is a cracking race and looks like one where you should go wide in the quaddie.
(11) Najmah goes on top purely from a talent standpoint. She looks a nice type though she has come up too short to touch. She showed her talent last preparation with big wins at Kembla Grange and then in town here at Canterbury, stamping herself as one to watch. This does look a danger race if she runs (nominated for other races) as there is plenty of speed and she will likely get buried on the rail. I have no doubt with the right run, she wins, but will she get that run?
(12) Rustic Steel is another who is destined for better than this and the stable have nominated him for the Arrowfield Sprint down the track. His debut at Randwick was brilliant beating home a couple who have performed well in town since. When you see the draw you automatically think negatively but with the amount of speed, but he should be able to slot in somewhere and come home nicely.
(9) Lunar Tramp is one who will love the speed on and be coming home well providing the track plays fair. She is a nice each-way chance.
Tip: (11) Najmah $2.20

(4) Strange Charm goes on top in the last race of the night after failing in Saturday grade about a month ago. The daughter of Casino Prince had the run of the race behind eventual winner Invinciano but when asked to produce, she produced very little and drifted back to finish ninth. Back in grade here with the sting out of the ground suits and she looks the likely leader without any issues. Nash should be able to cuddle her throughout before accelerating on the bend and putting this race to bed.
(1) Above and Beyond got close last start but missed out by under half a length in a brilliant effort. He looks to get a good run here and with the 2kg claim, he comes in nicely though the soft ground and potential rain may work against her.
(2) Saffiano is the best of the rest in a pretty thin end to the night.
