Tremendous race to start the day here with a handful that can take this out.

(1) Bonaparte goes on top for me here on the back of brilliant win here at the Sunshine Coast over 1400m. He started well and sat outside the lead before steaming away to win by 3.8 lengths. Before that he come home nicely at Eagle Farm where it was hard to make ground. There looks to be no pace in this race which will increase his chances of either leading or box seating and although he goes up in weight, he gets a nice 3kg claim of Tomlinson. I have him slight overs at the price.

(6) Standing Ovation is one I like at good odds to run a massive race. She sat third last on a slow pace before being held up on the turn and early in the straight. Once she got out, she followed the favourite Rebel Salute, but the race was over, finishing 1.6 lengths back in fourth. He is drawn much better here to sit closer in the run and is a tremendous each-way bet.

(2) Rebel Rock won’t be far away here and won’t mind the lack of pace as he looks to try slot into a prominent position. Michael Rodd on is intent and should be in the finish.

Another tough race but nothing really stands out for me here.

(8) Makedon sat just off the leaders in third last start which was a below average pace before peeling off them in the straight. He looked the winner halfway up the straight, but the favourite Zawadi fought back. Before that he fought on well in a much tougher grade at Doomben which will give him a solid chance here. He drops 5kg from his last start and will look to sit in the front half of the field once again with the pace expected to be below average.

(7) Steinbrenner is a bulldog of a horse and if this becomes a battle up the straight, he will hold a pair of aces. He was caught wide early on last start before pushing forward to second to avoid being caught wide for the entirety. The pace was fast, and he kept fighting on for a tough win, which indicated to me that 1800m will not be an issue. He is drawn much better here, so expect a good run.

(2) Meteor Light rounds out the top three and will likely head forward from the poor draw.

This race is a two-horse war, and I will be very surprised if something else rears its ugly head.

I am staying with the girl who has done me well this preparation in (1) Glorious Ruby purely due to her fitness advantage. She made it back-to-back victories last start as she started well and settled third on an average pace. She then peeled off them in the straight and was an easy winner. The run home was pretty slow though so it will be interesting to see what happens if she does get into a battle with the other horse in the market.

(2) Sweet Dolly is that horse who was impressive winning in the Calway Gal despite being wayward in the straight. It is interesting to note that nothing has come out of that race and done much so that puts a massive question mark over the form. She has since come out with the winkers on and trialled the house down so maybe the winkers will give her that extra boost. I am happy to be against her at the price, but this race is exciting.

(3) Alert and Ready is the best of the rest.

I don’t have any doubt that this horse is the best horse in the race, but he was pretty average before going for a small break.

(2) Cochrane ran well first-up behind Alpine Edge in the Phelan Ready and arguably could have won the race if he didn’t get into a battle to keep Baby Wong in a pocket. He then went to Sydney where he was given run of the race stuff behind Vandoula Lass and showed nothing, going backwards to finish seventh. He has since trialled once unconvincingly and been gelded whilst changing to the Tony Gollan stables. He will get every favour here being drawn to get run of the race stuff behind above average pace. This could make or break him.

(7) Better Off is one who may fly under a few people’s radars as he generally misses the kick as he did last start badly. Although he flew home to finish seventh, he easily passed the winners 150m after the post which shows how fast he was going. For reference, he ran the third fastest last 200m of the entire meeting. He gets the blinkers on which could very well do the trick. I got him as overs at the current price and is a smokey to run a big race.

(6) Hamlet Von Snitzel started well last start and settled just behind the leaders behind an average speed. He ended up three wide for the rest of the trip before finishing solidly into fourth. He is back home and should be super fit for this race, but he has drawn poorly.

This bloke is a huge chance to cause an upset here, but due to his usual pattern, I will be backing him each-way

(5) Simply Fly is going for three on the trot after two impressive wins coming from last. Since being gelded he has really turned a corner and I love the set-up for him here. There is an abundance of pace and he is drawn perfectly to come across and sit off the speed. Steph Thornton has worked this bloke out perfectly and I am sure she is going to give him a pinpoint ride. Let’s hope for incident free run.

(1) Kisukano will be the girl he will have to catch who finished outside the top three for the first time in her one start last preparation. She come up the rail on the day which wasn’t the place to be and finished well back in eighth. She gets a nice draw and comes back to her own age group first-up. She has proven in the past to be able to carry weight first-up so it shouldn’t worry her here.

(2) Mishani Miss took on harder opposition last start and like Kisukano, she comes back to her own age group where she has been competitive and has drawn nicely.

There are some silly prices in this market and this girl should be a lot shorter.

(13) Chivargo comes out of a race where the pace was good, and the rating of the race was just as good. She sat behind short priced favourite Ingear and put her to the sword in the straight, winning by 1.3 lengths. This girl loves the Sunshine Coast, she maps well from an ideal draw and has to carry no weight. This is harder I do admit, but she is a fit in-form mare who loves all ground, she just ticks too many boxes and just needs to tick the 1000m box.

(2) Howwonderfullifeis is the main danger here though I thought she got the pace suited to her liking last start. She will again have to carry 59kg, but she will be much fitter after two runs and is drawn well.

(15) Air Spirit can run a bold race if the pace is on. She hit the line well last start winning at this track and distance and does look one that can pinch this race if the conditions suit. Don’t leave her out of the quaddie.

(5) Doctor Zeus goes on top here on the back of a tough run last start when finishing third to You Make Me Smile. He went forward from the wide draw which wouldn’t have been the first choice, but he did have to spend energy to get there. He drops 2.5kg from that run and has drawn much better here, so expect him to camp on the back of a projected hot speed and be flying late.

(4) Run For Glory is going for six in a row but has drawn wide which won’t help his cause. He has to go forward here but this distance may just be a touch sharp for him going up in grade first-up.

(7) Gem of Scotland is the best horse in this race, but she has been off for almost a year after being injured. She trialled up well but I think her price is too short returning off such a length lay-off over 1200m.

(1) Junction gets a mention for the quaddies, don’t leave him out as he loves pace and 1200m.

I am happy to take on the favourite here though there are three horses I want to back and if any of the three win, we profit on the race.

(13) Wapiti goes on top after coming off two very good runs in the TAB Wave and the Magic Millions Quality, where he ran third in both behind Paradee. The step back to the mile isn’t a worry as he has done it well previously, winning the Sunshine Coast Guineas as just one example. He carries no weight, gets a good draw and regardless of the track conditions, he will be there.

(7) Star of Michelin has been freshened after winning at this track and distance last time out. He sat handy on a slow pace before making his move in the straight. He generally performs well here and well for Tomlinson whilst dropping 1kg off his last run. He will love the track even more if it improves.

(5) Sofie’s Gold Class is at a silly price after taking on some good opposition last start. She travelled three wide without cover for the event and kept coming behind Emerald Kingdom and Splendoronthegrass. She loves the mile and the Sunshine Coast, but their best chance of winning is to head forward, if they can successfully sit prominently, she could be very hard to get past.

Tough race to finish on, so I would be going wide in the last leg of the quaddie.

(3) Bering Sea goes on top at each-way odds after chasing down his opposition last time out. He loves the Sunshine Coast and should come on nicely from his first-up effort. I am expecting them to head forward from the draw to give themselves a chance and if the track keeps improving, the connections will grow more confident.

(16) Scottish Mist won well last start and they will be looking to replicate that same run here. She is no stranger to the Sunshine Coast which is a positive and the 1400m isn’t foreign to her either. It is a small step up in grade, but she looks a good chance to go back-to-back from a good draw.

(14) Lunar Light looks the best of the rest from a poor draw.

Tip: (3) Bering Sea $7.00/$2.45 E/W
