I backed this Exceed and Excel gelding last start to finally break his maiden and I think he is well placed to go back-to-back. (1) That’s Better ran superbly last start at Wyong, leading the entire way with 59kg to win by two lengths in front of Pacific Ocean (who ran admirably at Gosford on Tuesday) and French Bonnet (who was dominant at Newcastle on Saturday). The draw does look a touch tricky and he does have a little bit of speed to his inside, so expect Josh Parr to get him into gear early to cross them and lead. I don’t think it will phase him if it continues to rain as his first-up effort at Gosford on a heavy was quite good behind the talented Ready to Soar. He will give himself every chance and is a top each-way bet.

This is a wide-open race and playing these two each-way may just give us a nice result. (2) Commander’s Bell is finally getting out to a preferred distance after a nice run at Wyong over the mile last start. He separated Onemore Sapphire (who placed at Gosford on Tuesday) and Foxborough who won at Warwick Farm recently, so the form stacks up nicely. His form in the past is fair on the rain affected tracks and I think he is a touch over the odds at the moment. (7) He’s A Given is the other I want to speck, and he is one who relishes wet tracks. He is coming off a nice placing in town and will appreciate the step back to provincial level. He found the line nicely last start and stepping back up to 1900m will suit him. With these two each-way bets, we should go close with even luck.

If the son of Written Tycoon had drawn, I think he would be near odds-on but that isn’t the case here, drawing the carpark. (8) Canton Kid will have his barrier improve with scratchings but still will need things to go his way as he attempts to roll forward. Although he was beaten by 2.6 lengths as favourite, he will come on nicely from that first-up run and will definitely appreciated the sting out of the ground. I expect Josh Parr to put him in a forward position from the outset and be right in the finish.
