For such a small field, I think this bloke offers us a bit of value. (4) Salsa Man returned well first-up at Gosford, finishing 4.2 lengths back in fourth. Considering this guy isn’t a fan of the heavy going, he managed to come from last to get close to Liberty Sun who loves the heavy and has been competitive in town, Gidgee Guy who is a noted country/provincial sprinter and rival (3) Allez Rev, who is not only deep into his preparation but loves the wet going also. In the past, our bloke has been competitive with the likes of Time Raid, Yonkers, Aristograts and Darleb amongst others, so back to country grade suits. Unlike some of his rivals, he has proven form carrying 60kg and is going to love stepping up to 1450m, especially on a good surface. Although he is drawn barrier 8 and will go back like usual, this is the smallest field he has faced in some time and shouldn’t be giving them much of a head start. If this was an eight-horse field, I would be playing each way, but unfortunately there is only seven. Providing the speed isn’t slow, he is a top chance.

This bloke ticks a lot of boxes and will start a lot shorter than the quote below. (2) Without Shame hasn’t finished outside of the top 3 in four starts and I don’t see it happening here. He narrowly missed first-up this preparation as the short priced favourite before breaking his maiden status at Mudgee in December, saluting by less than half a length. He then travelled to Inverell where he just had a touch too much to do, finishing 0.6 lengths in third. The winner has since won its next race which in a Class 2, which is good form for this and the way he hit the line over the 1400m, gives me great confidence for this race. He is fighting fit with a good jockey on. I will be very shocked if he finishes outside the top 2.

I am shocked that this girl hasn’t opened favourite. (10) Baiyka has been in terrific form this preparation and should be able to go on with it here. Three back she finished 0.2 lengths off rival (5) Owhata Crumpet at Muswellbrook who is also in good form, but our girl meets her 3kg better off for that run. She then broke her maiden status at Scone, holding off Street Power who won by 3 lengths at Gosford in impressive fashion and beating home Greenheart by 2.5 lengths, who won well at Muswellbrook next start. She ran 3.6 lengths back in third last start at Scone and did not overly like the heavy conditions but run well regardless. She is super fit, is drawn nicely, retains Billy Cray and I honestly believe she is over the odds.
