It’s the final day of Royal Ascot 2021 today with just the one Group 1 race on the card, the Diamond Jubilee Stakes.
The highlight of the flat racing season in the UK, the Royal Ascot carnival spans five days (Tuesday-Saturday) and consists of 35 races, with over £6million in prize money on offer, making it Britain’s most valuable racing carnival.
We’re set to see the best flat horses from Britain and Ireland, with eight Group 1 races contested over the carnival.
Once again we’ve partnered with the team at Tips4Punters (@tips4punters) to bring you local insights and betting tips for every day of the carnival. Let’s finish the Royal Ascot carnival with a big fill up!
Race 1: Chesham Stakes (Listed)
Saturday 11:30pm AEST
The Chesham Stakes kicks things off on Day 5. The ground took a battering yesterday with rain so conditions will remain on the soft/heavy side. The three I want to concentrate on are Point Lonsdale, Masekela and New Science.
Aidan O’Brien trains Point Lonsdale who won very well on debut at the Curragh earlier this month. Worth noting the trainer has a good record in this race winning it 5 times (1999, 2011, 2016, 2017 & 2020) as does the jockey Ryan Moore (won it 4 times).
Andrew Balding had a good day yesterday with 2 winners, he trains Masekela another who has won on debut at Goodwood (soft). Goes up in distance and is sure to progress.
Charlie Appleby runs NEW SCIENCE for Godolphin who has also won on debut at Yarmouth (good) last month beating Reach For The Moon (who lines up again). More to come for sure.
TIP: (3) New Science – $7.00 at Sportbet
Race 2: Jersey Stakes (Group 3)
Sunday 12:05am AEST
Mutasaabeq scored on his first 2 starts at Newmarket and jumped up in Grade to the Group 1 2000 Guineas and come 7th. Down to Group 3 level he looks set to run well for Charles Hills.
KHARTOUM runs for Aidan O’Brien who was a bad last in the Craven at Newmarket but does have a win either side of that. Last seen winning at Naas last month. Has won twice on soft ground.
At a bigger price Ace Aussie looks like a good pick for an each way go. Previously chased home Poetic Flare (who won the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes here earlier this week) in the Listed 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown in April. Was beat (3rd) last start in a Group 3 at Leopardstown but that was over the mile, back to 7f today. Worth a crack each way.
TIP: (7) Khartoum – $7.50 at TopSport
VALUE: (3) Ace Aussie – $23 at TopSport
Race 3: Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2)
Sunday 12:40am AEST
David Menuisier’s filly WONDERFUL TONIGHT is a winner on her last 2 starts, winning the Group 1 Qatar Prix de Royallieu at ParisLongchamp then the Group 1 Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot on her last appearance. Handles soft/heavy ground so the way the ground has turned at Ascot will only benefit her. Big contender.
Broome has been in fantastic form for Aidan O’Brien lately. Hattrick of wins in 2021 and was only beaten a short head in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh when last seen.
Ilaraab has a very good record with 6 wins from 7 races, only got beat on debut. Racked up the wins, winning a York Handicap last month. Definitely more to come from him.
Another worth a mention is Hukum for Owen Burrows.
Those looking for some each way value should look at Sir Ron Priestley for Mark Johnston.
TIP: (15) Wonderful Tonight – $4.20 at Sportsbetting
Race 4: Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Group 1)
Sunday 1:20am AEST
Ed Walker runs STARMAN in the feature, Starman beat Nahaarr (lines up again) in the Group 2 Duke Of York at York last month. Nahaarr was only beat by a neck that day and could well turn the tables on that rival today with “Aussie Tom” onboard.
DREAM OF DREAMS has been so unlucky in this race, beat a head in the last two runnings of the race. 3rd time lucky perhaps?
With Starman scratched, Dream of Dreams goes on top.
TIP: (2) Dream of Dreams – $3.25 at Sportsbet
Race 5: Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap)
Sunday 2:00am AEST
The two I want to concentrate on in this are Fresh and Pendleton who have both took each other on before with FRESH coming out on top beating Pendleton by a nose at Ascot in a Handicap. With Pendleton going on to win a York Handicap last month. That’s all good but I am going to go with Fresh to beat that one again in the rematch today.
Air Raid is the each way play in this for Jedd O’Keeffe. Has won on heavy ground before so conditions will be no problem.
TIP: (27) Fresh – $7.50 at TAB
Race 6: Golden Gates Stakes (Handicap)
Sunday 2:35am AEST
ALFAADHEL looks the one to be on here the Roger Varian trained colt was 3rd on debut but has since progressed landing his next 2 races. Looks a horse going places.
The pick of the foxes is (Foxes Tales also runs) is Fantastic Fox another runner for Roger Varian. Winner of a maiden last month at Hamilton. First try at todays trip 1m 1f. Will go well for owners King Power Racing.
King Frankel (can you guess who his Dad is?) is certainly worth a mention for Mark Johnston.
At the bigger price Glentaneous is the each way pick in the race. Up in trip.
TIP: (6) Alfaadhel – $5.50 at Sportsbetting
VALUE: (15) Glentaneous – $26 at Sportsbetting
Race 7: Queen Alexandra Stakes (Conditions Race)
Sunday 3:10am AEST
This year’s Chester Cup winner FALCON EIGHT rocks up at Royal Ascot in the last race of the day, in the last race of the meeting and I honestly can’t see past him. For that reason he is the number 1 pick. Straight to the point!
