Terang Racing Tips: Friday, November 20th

The Horse is keen on four races at Terang on Friday afternoon, before the twilight racing at Rosehill and Moonee Valley gets underway.

It’s a big Friday of racing with two twilight meetings to be held at Rosehill and Moonee Valley respectively. To get things going however, we take a look at the meeting at Terang where there is a handful of maidens and bm58s.

The Horse is keen to play several races; Race 2, Race 3, Race 6 & Race 7.

The favourite (6) Kobe Princess looks a touch vulnerable here. She won a bm58 graded race last start convincingly, but that was after competing unsuccessfully in multiple similar races throughout the preparation. She has obviously come back well from a short freshen-up, but she doesn’t win out-of-turn, so to be a $2.80 favourite—no thanks.

(2) Viva Acheeva has been racing reasonably well in this grade, and can be somewhere in the mix. His last race at Hamilton he ran fourth behind the winner (1) Under The Bridge who he meets again today. The Simon Wilde runner won that race by almost a length, but the win was probably stronger than the margin suggests.

He was racing in bm64-70 graded races last preparation, so another bm58 looks well within reach. Has an okay record second up, and at over double the price of the favourite, he gets my money.

It is a big field here in the third, with the Price & Kent runner (7) Master Bartholdi looking pretty likely. He ran pretty well last start placing third. Today the tongue-tie goes on which indicates the stable felt he could have been choking down, obstructing his breathing, and we can assume that he therefore did not run to expectation. If he improves here—he wins. The gate is the problem (drawn in gate 14), so let’s hope for a few scratchings to bring him in a little, where he can use some speed to get across into a nice spot.

Outside him, no idea, but (4) Real Roy is an outside hope for a place at odds (currently $37 / $8).

This is not the first time we have followed (5) Frome The Stars into a race. His last two starts were a second and third. He went from a bm64 down to a bm58 but still didn’t get the win (when he looked very likely). The stable may have been looking for an easier kill that day, but it didn’t work out. So they’ve kept him in the lower grade to give him another shot. At the $5.50 currently on offer, he is good each-way value.

There are a few chances here however, with (1) Bon Spot putting together two good performances coming into this (including a win), and (4) Tippitywichit also coming in after a win.

Frome the Stars looks to have the class advantage, so we’re sticking.

The favourite (2) Dance Ready looked okay first up, but it’s likely that race was simply a fitness run. His best is over a touch further, while first-up hadn’t shown much. Gets a winnable race here and is more likely to be hitting his straps. Looking at last preparation he competed in bm70 and coming second to Walking Flying. The track condition suits, draws a good gate, so should be very competitive here.

(13) Regal Ballerina may continue to improve, while (1) Gingerson is a danger.

The Horse

The Horse found the thought of placing bets and drinking beers much more appealing once he was married, and that led to an interest in the many intricacies of The Great Game. He enjoys the challenge of predicting what will happen in any given race, but also loves horses themselves, none more so than the mighty mudlark Jungle Edge. His focus lies on metropolitan racing in Victoria and NSW, however isn’t afraid to find one out wide. Away from racing, The Horse is an avid drummer – quite a difficult task with a set of hooves.
