Not a bad race to start the day with.
I am backing a first starter in (4) Gulf of Thailand here at the each-way quote. The Sebring colt has had three trials in the lead up to this and should be firing fit, which is the traditional Ryan/Alexiou fashion. He missed the kick in his first trial but recovered nicely and hit the line well behind Arthur Francis and Sniper Legend. He then trialled against Home Affairs and King of Sparta and once again was very solid late. The third trial behind rival (5) Head of State was a touch deceiving as our bloke started with the field but drifted back due to the barrier. It reads he went down by 3 lengths+ but if he gets the same run in the trial as the winner, he goes close in my opinion. He will be fit, is drawn perfectly to go forward and is a brilliant each-way price.
(5) Head of State is the clear danger and favourite of the race. He gets a nice draw and has the benefit of race day experience. He will attempt to go forward from the draw but I think he ends up behind (4) Gulf of Thailand and will have to do some chasing. It won’t surprise me if he wins this, but not for me at the price.
(1) Bil Colyns looks the best of the rest with the race day experience.

Gee this looks a thin race and the favourite is overs in my books.
The nicely bred (2) Military Parade was very good on debut with excuses. He was slow out of the gates and did lay out rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight but made some good ground late to finish 1.8 lengths in second behind Investor, who had the obvious map advantage. I think the I Am Invincible gelding will make nice improvement from that first-up run and getting to a slightly bigger track is an advantage. If he can start with them, he is going to be mighty hard to stop.
(6) Impressive Lass is the main danger though it has almost been a month since her second at Gosford. She was very good that day but has since been scratched from a couple of meetings. She is drawn well and providing she is up to the mark; she is a top hope.
(5) Tycoon Hallie looked to have trialled up nicely and I am interested to see the debut of the Written Tycoon filly.

This is an absolutely cracking race! Three quarters of the field are a chance here and there is value to be found.
(6) Shivani is going on top for me and this is the first time I have backed her, so I hope I haven’t missed the boat. She was impressive breaking her maiden after easily disposing the rest of the field in her first go over 1400m. She sticks to the same track and distance which is ideal and if the track remains or gets to soft, she will enjoy the cushion. Tommy Berry will continue his affiliation with her and will get her into a nice position from a nice draw. If she runs the time she did last start, she will be hard to beat.
(7) French Bonnet is one that I have backed over her last two starts where she has won impressively both times. They have stepped her up nicely and should be ready for this 1400m event, though the query I do have with her is if she will have the same dash as some of these. I think she is going to be much stronger over further than what she faces today, but it will be a good test for her stepping into a tougher grade. This is only her first preparation and she will progress nicely when she goes out for a break.
(8) Orpheum has returned nicely after a couple of months off and it was evident when she came from the rear of the field to go down by 1.3 lengths to the Inglis Sprint winner Rocketing By. She drops from a benchmark 72 in Saturday grade to a benchmark 68 in midweek grade and only goes up 2.5kg. Clipperton remains on and she will come on nicely from that first-up run. Not sure how she is the price she is.

The only staying race on the card and it is a tough one.
(8) Alakahan goes on top for me after a solid return from a break. He got back from a wide barrier and came with a late run to just miss out on a placing over an unsuitable distance. He carried 59kg on the day and managed to finish 0.6 of a length in fourth behind Sonic Tycoon. He steps up 600m here second-up which is ideal and will carry no weight thanks to Jean Van Overmeire’s claim. Although he is drawn wide, there isn’t a lot of speed on paper, so hopefully they follow (2) Castel Sant’Angelo across and sit in a prominent position.
(6) La Grisa is stepping back from the Australia Day Cup back to a benchmark 72, where he almost saluted the start before at this track and distance. He is fighting fit and will appreciate any rain if it comes. Tommy Berry opting to ride him is key though he could be buried back from the draw.
(2) Castel Sant’Angelo is out to a more suitable distance here and can make it a real staying test if they decide to make it a solid gallop. He will be the speed in the race so he can dictate to his terms.

(4) Hyannis Port is nice each-way odds here in a race which could go a few different ways. He trialled up really nicely behind Malkovich, starting very well before surrendering the lead and holding his own all the way to the finish. She generally comes to hand quite quickly so it will not surprise me to see her forward in the yard. She is drawn well here at the 1100m start point and has the gate speed to lead comfortably which will give her a distinct advantage late in the race. She is value is she is up to the mark first-up, but each-way is the safe play.
(2) Exotic Ruby backers will be seeing this price and crying after she arguably should have won last start at Rosehill in stronger grade. She is drawn to get the suck run here back in grade and should come on nicely from that first run.
(1) Sally’s Day and (9) On Her Word are both good prospects in this race but have drawn poorly and will be giving a start. Include them in your exotics.

I like (5) Awesome Lad here as he nears his peak fitness. Christian Reith did a good job getting the gelding into a nice position after starting awkwardly from the wide gate. He hit the line well behind Darleb, going down by 1.3 lengths in second, continuing his consistent preparation. He only goes up half a kilo and gains the services of Nash Rawiller which is going to be a bonus especially with an ideal barrier. He should be able to sit in the front 4 here and get every chance upon entering the straight. We all know Nash is the one you want to be with in a dog fight, so I am expecting a thrilling finish.
(8) Travest is back from Saturday grade and wound up favourite here. I think that is the main factor behind his price as from his wide draw, he is likely to get back. He has Tommy Berry aboard once again, so he may look to use his knowledge of the gelding and weave a passage through late.
(2) Invasion Day narrowly missed last start and should be able to get a more comfortable run with cover in this one.

There was no doubt she was one of the better maidens in the country but (12) Newsreader broke that status nicely on the Gold Coast a month ago. I thought she got in nicely here with her rating and only carrying 55.5kg and James McDonald will have to navigate a path from the wide draw. Where she gets to from the draw is the query and obviously taking into consideration the possibility of rain and leader bias. She is no doubt the one I would back in this race, but I think its safer to take the money and run.
(7) Amusez Moi is an interesting one and I think he is better than what he has produced. He is coming back from a small let-up where he was gelded and has since had a solid trial. Josh Parr will settle around midfield with him and I am keen to see him return at a nice price.
(9) Born A Warrior is no doubt the best of the rest in my opinion and will come on nicely from his last start effort.
