This looks a tough race to assess with some real battlers engaged and the heavy 10 obviously doesn’t make it any easier. 

(1) Hypnosis is probably the obvious choice and is on the quick backup following a 2nd here over this trip last week. He’s 3rd up now and should be at peak fitness. Will put himself up on speed and tough to run down in these conditions. 

(8) Proverbial looks the other horse who is close to breaking through. The horse she finished 2nd to last start has since come out and won well again.

(2) Ribeauville can get away with this first up. Showed enough in three runs in first prep (all in wet conditions) to think he will run well today. Recent trials have been sound and I think with his proven exposure in the conditions he looks a good chance. 

(7) Strombus is having first start since being gelded and started well in the market in his two runs to date. I think he’s got a maiden win in him soon and probably just needs to get through the heavy going to be a winning chance. 

(3) Tailoring looks the main danger to the top two in the market.

(2) Midnight Oasis was having first start for a few months when she finished 3rd in a pretty strong maiden at Newcastle. She’ll be much better with that run under the belt and I like the 3kg claim here for Dylan Gibbons who sticks for the ride. In an open race she looks a good winning chance. 

(7) Carartie has finished in the placings a few times in her career and has shown talent along the way. The recent trials have been some of her best work and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her break through here. 

(11) Miss Milton looks the best value runner in the race.

(8) Wardaddy won his maiden on a heavy track before going under as a very short favourite last start. Expect Gibbons to go forward from the wide barrier and I think he can bounce back here. 

(7) Flash Point is as honest as they come and rarely runs a poor race. Struggles to win but he will be thereabouts again and should be fitter now 2nd up from a spell. 

(6) Monte Di Fiore has only missed the placings once in five runs and deserves a crack in this sort of race. If he handles the conditions he will go close.

(3) Five Crowns can make it three straight wins here and comes into this off the back of some strong performances. He’ll put himself up on speed form the inside draw and looks a pretty progressive horse for Lees. 

(6) Dynasties bolted in on debut before going for a spell. She ran on well from the back first up this prep and is sure to be a big improver with that run under the belt. She’ll be spotting her main rival a bit of a start however. 

(8) Weekend Affair gets through the conditions and is one of the few in here who has seen a heavy track.

(2) Unwavering Faith is a proper swimmer and will absolutely love the conditions today. She’s had four starts on heavy tracks for two wins and a second so will get the track to suit again here. She’s been racing very well, winning two of last three and I think she maps for a nice run. 

Best to be forgiving of (6) Tea Leaves 2nd up when never really firing a shot. Was good first up behind a horse who has since come out and won a Saturday highway. Been a winner 3rd up previously and looks ready to do something. 

(3) Atonement has been running well this prep and has a heavy track win to her name.

Giving (9) Blazing another chance here now 4th up and full of fitness. Loves racing here and has two wins over the track/trip. Gets through the wet and has been a winner 4th up previously. 

(5) One Star Shining looks one of the better value chances on the card and should be a big improver getting onto a wet track. Best performances have come in these conditions and his best is good enough to win this. 

(3) Remus looks the hardest to beat for mine and has shown a bit of ability in short career to date. Likes racing here and won on a heavy track last prep. 1300m is probably the query.
