Rosehill Racing Tips: Saturday, January 15th

Billy Bestford is back to preview every race at Rosehill today.

rosehillracecourse

Saturday racing heads to Rosehill for another big 10 race card to get stuck into.

There’s been a bit of rain around all week in Sydney but the weather has been clearing up the last couple days. The track is currently rated a soft 7 with the rail out 3 metres. I think a soft 7 is probably what we’ll be racing on come race day.

Billy Bestford has once again preview every race on the card today and has picked out his best bets throughout the afternoon.

Best Bet: Race 7 – (2) The Bopper

Best Value: Race 9 – (6) Ulysses

(6) Kanazawa was smashed in betting last start in a very strong 3yo race. Ended up finishing 4th when wide with no cover there but kept finding to the line and really like how he finished off. Will take plenty from that and the horses who beat him there would all stack up pretty well in a race of this grade. Happy to follow him in today and should see a nicer run from a good draw.

(5) Kir Royale brings good winning form into this and can’t be knocked. Has won last two in very good fashion and this looks the logical step into tougher grade. Wet conditions might be a query?

(3) Centimental was good fresh over 1200 and is sure to enjoy rising here an extra 100m. Generally improves with racing under the belt throughout her prep and she can run a strong race here at an EW price.

Tip: (6) Kanazawa - $3.80 at Sportsbet

(3) Metallicity has looked the part at two recent trials and is a big brute of a 2yo. The latest of those trials was his best work, hitting the line under his own steam while going past a couple of front running horses to win hands and heels. Think he looks very progressive and could go on to win some good races.

(1) Flashing Steel was a $1m purchase and has gotten better at each trial. Comes into this off the back of a nice trial win at Warwick Farm and no doubt connections will have high hopes for him. Barrier could be a bit sticky.

(2) Frozen Prince and (6) Sweet Ride come out of the same trial (and Flashing Steel) and they both looked very good there.

(11) Pay The Deeler brings some interesting formlines to a Sydney Highway, running very well in last two starts in Melbourne. Beaten less than a length in both of those runs and will only carry 51.5kg after the apprentice claim here. Won’t know herself with that kind of weight and just with that point of difference on form I’m happy to take a stab.

(6) King’s Trust was beaten by the barrier last start but still ran on strongly behind Banju. Highway win before that was very good and he is always competitive in these sorts of affairs. Rise to 1500m should suit.

(4) Banju was extremely tough winning the Highway last start when trapped wide up on the speed but kept finding to win well in the end. Rises 2.5kg on that but no doubt will be competitive again.

(5) Lord Desanimaux is another who always runs well in these races and is knocking on the door to win one. Back to back runner up finishes puts him in nice stead and he’s had a little freshen up to drop back to this trip.

(15) Tidal Rush next best and looks a progressive horse with two good wins to his name.

(6) Sky Command is a horse I’ve got plenty of time for and showed a stack of talent last prep. Has trialled up really nicely leading into this and she is proven on all surfaces. If the rain does come then she looks an even better bet, with two dominant heavy track wins to her name. She beat Dragonstone in one of those and that form has well and truly been franked.

(9) Finally Realise was a good return run last start when closing well from the back in a similar race to this. Should take a stack of improvement out of that run and I think he can go close here.

(1) Easy Campese is the class runner in this field and gets a good claim to offset the top weight. Can sprint well fresh and if he manages to find a nice trail off the leaders in the run then he’s sure to give this a shake.

(10) Evening Bride is airborne and I really like her here but if it’s heavy I’m not sure she can win. Keep an eye on how the track is looking by this stage.

(5) Niffler is yet to miss the quinella in five career starts and she’s really started building into a nice little horse. Had to give weight to the winner last start but she ran very well and the fact Waller has backed her up quickly tells me they really like the way she’s going at the moment. Gets right down to 53kg here and she’s just bulletproof in the way she races. Yes 2000m.

No doubt stablemate (8) Sword Point is the threat and is another lightly raced Waller runner. Was a bit of an odd run last start when taking a while to wind up but really hit the line strongly to just miss as a short priced fav. Will be better for that and can threaten Niffler.

If there’s one to knock them off it will be (2) Dhakuri who is airborne, winning last two in nice style. Looks like he is going to eat up the 2000m.

Taking a chance that (8) Speed Legend can finally break through here after yet another placing last start. Will get absolutely every chance in the run today from the inside draw and gets well down in the weights. Looks ready to win one of these now.

(1) For Valour is bulletproof and absolutely flying at the moment, winning two on the bounce now. Will go forward once again, handles all conditions and will be a chance to run them into the ground yet again.

(5) Loveplanet was okay last start in that same race but seemed to just be a bit flat to the line. 3rd up now on the quick backup I am expecting him to be ready to peak.

(3) Blesk brings a different formline an is rarely out of the placings. Will get back and run on once again and looks a big winning chance if he can have some luck.

Think (2) The Bopper looks well placed here following a dominant first up win. This horse has always shown some X factor and this could be the prep where he takes the next step into some big races. Is 2/3 2nd up and gets a 2kg drop in the weights from that fresh run.

(5) Mr Mosaic is a tough on-pacer and kept his unbeaten first up record in tact with a very good win here last start. Has had a little freshen up for this and that should do him wonders to be very competitive once again.

(9) Amiche can improve 3rd up here after a bit of a flat run last start. Looked very good winning fresh when arriving from QLD and if you can forgive last start, she looks another winning chance.

Thought (5) Super Effort looked reasonably well placed here and has been competitive in some stronger races than this. Did more than enough fresh where the leaders dominated and should enjoy rising in trip here. Ran 2nd to Private Eye around this time last year.

(4) Mensa Missile looks extremely close to breaking through following another 2nd last start. Should be at peak fitness now 4th up and will enjoy the drop in weight here. Maps well from the low draw.

(1) Fashchanel found the front pretty easily last start and won well in a similar race to this. Will only carry 58kg after the claim here and no doubt they’ll adopt similar tactics and be tough to run down.

(2) Rubamos next best and is in some good form.

Giving (11) Key Largo one more chance here and surely he is due some luck! Deadset found as much trouble as he possibly could last start before flashing home late when finally clear. Seems to be a regular problem with his racing pattern but he is clearly flying and drawing wider today should suit.

(9) Olympic Legend is a good fresh horse and could be the one who brings some different form into this race. Has a very solid record and no doubt will be forward in the run from barrier 1 and on best form he can knock these off.

(6) Ulysses trialled nicely for this and has a very strong fresh record. Loves 1200m and I think he looks the best roughie in the race.

Hard to miss the trial of (10) Star Cherie leading into this when bolting in by 6.5L. That was in pretty quick time and she could be in for a huge prep if that’s anything to go by. Should see nice run from the inside draw and she’s lightly raced with plenty of upside.

If the track has dried out by this stage (2) Salina Dreaming can certainly win. Usually performs best first up and she’s trialed nicely without being asked to do much. Is certainly good enough but conditions will be a big factor.

(6) Steel Diamond ran on very well from the back first up and should take a stack of improvement out of that.

Tip: (10) Star Cherie - $4.55 at Boombet

Betting Strategy: 1u Win Star Cherie

Billy has been an avid racing fan ever since he and a few mates started a punters club once they turned 18. Following the initial punters clubs, he was properly hooked after landing a nice collect on Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup and has had a soft spot for Japanese horses ever since. Is a massive fan of 'blinkers first time' and has been known to enjoy a 'Hail Mary' multi. Loves punting across metro Sydney and Melbourne every Saturday but isn't scared to venture West late in the day to find a Pikey special.
