(5) Ranveer has the eye-catching form from his debut campaign, running 2nd to Profiteer at Flemington. He was well backed there too, starting $2.60 and ran well for 2nd. The 600m jumpout at Mornington was excellent work, getting to the outside fence and winning comfortably under no riding. Draws well, gets Melham and I like him at 1000m.

(2) Hurtle bolted in on debut on the synthetic. The query is how he’ll handle a wet track off that, but he ran fast time and clearly looks up to a race like this.

(1) Mimosas won on a soft track on debut down the straight but I think that’s a weaker form line.

(12) Prasiolite down from Sydney isn’t completely hopeless. She’s been scratched a couple of times but comes out of a strong form race behind In The Congo and Verne.

Tip: (5) Ranveer- $2.70 at Sportsbet

Going to follow up on (14) Mr Mooj who was my best value last start and should’ve gone close to winning, yet somehow missed a place. He was allowed to drift back and got tight between runners, finishing 1.1L away. He drops 7kg off that run down to 52.5kg and up to 2400m will suit 3rd up. He should be able to sit much closer than last start as he did first up and has more upside than these. A very heavy track is a bit of a query but he wasn’t beaten far on a soft 7 in Ireland.

(5) Sign Seal Deliver will love if this turns into a slog home. He’s got no turn of foot but can absorb pressure, and did win comfortably on a heavy track at The Bool two back before chasing home Heart Of Puissance last start. Draws the carpark but that might force Yendall to just roll to the front and keep going, which suits the horse.

(9) Carrie was too strong with a big weight last start at Cranbourne. She’s a good wet tracker and looks ready to tackle 2400m. Wouldn’t be shocked to see her run another good race.

(6) Jayrod Too next best with Kah on.

Very open race. (10) Retrovailles has only had two starts but did win on a very heavy track on debut at Geelong. She closed hard but just missed at Horsham first up and gets in with 53kg here which could be advantageous on the wet track. Query with how far back she gets from the wide gate.

(4) Sensationalisation beat Sir Davy two back on a wet track and that form has been franked. She was okay in a harder race in Sydney last start and gets Zahra on here.

(7) Sweet Sixteen started $4 against Snickerdoodledandy last start at Flemington and ran well. That looks a good lead up for this and Kah sticks.

(11) Bubbly Lass was too good at The Bool on a heavy track breaking her maiden.

(13) Tan Tat Harmony looks suited getting onto a wet track. She’s run well both starts this prep, the latest just getting too far back against the pattern. The obvious query is where she gets to again from a wide gate, but she’s 2/2 on heavy tracks and has to be considered on that fact alone.

(3) Parmie finished ahead of her first up in an excellent return. I had her as a horse to follow after she ran the fastest last 200m of the meeting at Caulfield but a heavy track is a worry. Her last two on heavy tracks have been awful and she hasn’t run well on it since her 2yo days. This would have been an ideal race for her otherwise.

(8) La Richesse gets map favours for Kah and is coming here 2nd up off 8 weeks, where she usually races very well. The only time she’s seen a heavy track she was beaten 23L so that’s a huge query.

(1) Why Choose Her handles soft ground and was good first up in the same race as Parmie, but does have to carry 61kg.

Was keen to be with Tan Tat Harmony on a wet track, but she’s been scratched. Looking at the forecast it might be too wet for Parmie, but if we’re on a soft 6 or better I’d play her, otherwise no bet.

(1) Dr Drill looks ready to peak 3rd up. Both runs this prep have been solid and although he had every favour last start in Adelaide I think that’s a solid form reference, with Master Chum finishing midfield there and 3rd in Melbourne since. Dr Drill’s 3rd up record is very strong, he looks to tag the leader everywhere and he handles all ground.

The leader should be (8) No Effort who gets in with 51kg and does like wet tracks. For those reasons alone she has to be considered because there’s no pressure here, as there was last start where she faded. That was on a good 3, and some of her runs on wet tracks read okay for this, especially the Pinker Pinker plate run beating home Ocean Miss and Lunar Flare.

(5) Bedford loves wet tracks and comes out of a good race behind Yonkers. He’ll get back but looks well suited here, but he is $3.50 coming off a much longer SP and looks well enough found despite being a very good winning chance.

(2) Pacodali is ticking along well but struggles to win.

(4) Degraves is an interesting runner. Any horse that can finish less than 2L off Armory, just behind a horse that has beaten Sir Dragonet that bobs up in a bm78 at Sandown has to be highly respected. He’s a group 3 winner on a heavy track over 1811m and that would win this easily, it’s just whether he’s here to win. The market has been key with this Hickmott imports and if he’s firm in betting, you have to be on.

(7) Tooradin is flying this prep and has won with plenty in hand both starts. He handles wet ground and gets Zahra on from barrier 2 which should see him in the finish.

(10) Ocean Miss was one of the biggest morals beaten ever last start and gets J Kah on so there’s plenty to like. She handles wet ground no worries and can atone.

(5) Liapari is a very good wet tracker and got too far back last start. His first up run was solid and he could be an improver at triple figures. His last start on a heavy track he split So Si Bon and Mahamedeis over 1600m.

This race has completely fallen apart, with 45c deductions. Small bet Liapari who has come in for support.

(3) Seb Song looks an attractive price. He’s always shown plenty of talent but I don’t think the firm track was in his favour last start at Caulfield. The first up win was good over Scantoon, who won its next start, and getting onto a wet track should help. The first up win was on a soft 7 and his debut was on a heavy 10, finishing 2nd to Shelby Cobra. Melham sticks, he’s 3rd up and draws well, and comes out of what could be the best form line.

(13) Seiners Express gets in with 52kg and won its maiden on a heavy track at Hamilton. It was very good last start with 5 weeks between runs behind Muswellbrook where it probably should’ve won.

(9) Sarodec walked in two back at The Bool but tired badly last start when up to 2000m. Drops back to the mile here so should be hard fit and does drop 6kg in the weights. He clearly likes wet tracks and can be hard to run down.

(15) Visualising bolted in at $1.55 last start and was a head off Foxy Frida two back which reads well.

Very tough race. (8) Corner Pocket is absolutely airborne and was too good again last start despite having to work early to find the lead. He handles wet tracks although hasn’t seen an absolute bog and will be hard to beat again, but there is stacks of speed drawn inside.

(18) Sir Kalahad loves wet tracks and if he makes the field I could have something on him. We were on first up where he got run down very late at $17, and I thought he was okay last start with 62kg in a race where the swoopers really came into it. He drops a whopping 10.5kg down to 51.5kg and wouldn’t shock.

(10) Segalas definitely isn’t hopeless. She’s another very good wet tracker and the stable have placed her well here to find one. She was beaten a long way at Doomben last start but was caught very wide, and she was wide the start prior at Randwick but only beaten 4.3L by Lost And Running who is being touted as an Everest contender. Gets an airborne Zahra on and if she can get cover, she should get every chance to run on.

(11) Arkham Knight will get back off the hot tempo with Kah on. The run first up behind Too Good Too Hard is solid form but he does struggle to win.

Tip: (10) Segalas- $9.00 at Bet365

Value: (18) Sir Kalahad- $26.00 at Sportsbet

Betting Strategy: 0.75 units WIN Segalas, 0.25 units E/W Sir Kalahad

I’m making (12) Zipping Boy my best bet of the day at $7.00. He’s won his last two starts, the latest when backed very strongly at this T/D on a good 4, in a much easier race, probably in the inferior ground towards the inside with 59.5kg. He drops 7.5kg down to 52kg here and is unbeaten on heavy tracks. I think he’s more effective than most of these at 1000m and strikes a few older horses that are out of form. Great bet at the odds.

(14) Express Pass gets in with 51kg but 1100m back to 1000m is a query, as is a proper heavy track. He did start $6 at this T/D in the Doveton Stakes last prep and finished 7th, beaten 2.75L.

(10) Propelle is one of the only other 1000m specialists in the field. First up last prep she ran 2nd at this T/D and comes here fresh and off a win at the end of last prep. She does struggle to win but handles wet ground and has run top 3 at 11 of her 16 1000m starts.

(1) Great Again loves wet tracks and they’ve saved him from a few races to find soft ground. He also flies 2nd up although is now 5 weeks between runs, but 1000m is the query given he’s never seen it and is generally better over 1200m.

Tip: (12) Zipping Boy- $7.00 at Bet365

Also Backing: (10) Propelle- $23.00/6.00 at TAB

Betting Strategy: 1.5 units WIN Zipping Boy, 0.25/0.5 units E/W Propelle

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
