Albury Racing Tips: Friday, March 19th

Albury hosts racing again this Friday with the Albury Cup the feature of the day. Joshua Reed is looking to turn the luck of day 1 around with three bets late in the day.

Day 2 of the Albury Carnival continues on Friday with the Albury Guineas and Albury Cup the features on the day.

There is good weather once again, so expect a nice fast track throughout the day.

This is the first of the big three events today is the Albury Guineas, which does look a very nice contest.

I have looked at this race from many angles and it keeps coming back to (4) Impressive Lass. She is going for three on the trot after winning well at both Wyong and Canberra by a combined 5 lengths. Albeit both of these runs were on a soft 6 and both her runs rated well but not great despite the ease of victory. I keep coming back to her two runs on top of the ground prior to these wins when she was 0.6 of a length off winning at Warwick Farm behind Seleque, Military Parade and Canadian Spice. She maps well here which is super important and should get a comfortable run throughout. I won’t be betting with high confidence based on her past two ratings, but she should get conditions to suit and is worth a dabble.

I spoke earlier about how important the barrier and position in run is going to be here at Albury and (5) Cardiff ticks both boxes here. Since making the change to the Kody Nestor stable, the son of Snitzel has produced two superb runs which rate up there with his best runs of his career. First-up at Canterbury, he beat some handy ones over the 1100m on a heavy track before coming back a month later in a tougher grade where he finished 1.6 lengths tied in fourth. He did have a nice top-up trial in between which would have brought him on nicely, but the pace was a bit much in his second-up run. There is a lot of pace in this race but with his ideal draw, he should be able to find the front or be just off it and I think 900m is going to suit him down to the ground. James Innes Jnr is sticking with him which suits and if he can pinch a cheap breather around the 600m mark, he will be hard to catch.

The feature of the afternoon is the Albury Cup which brings together quite a lot of different form lines. (7) Mongolian Marshal is over the odds for a horse of his quality. He has been placed behind Melody Belle in a Group 1 in New Zealand before heading to Australia where he has performed okay without being great, winning just the one race so far, that being the Kyneton Cup. Last start, he was held up on the turn and then copped a bump on straightening which hindered his momentum, though he managed to keep fighting for third behind Persan and Irish Flame whilst beating home a couple of good ones. The pace was 12 lengths above par, which suited Persan in the end and gives even more merit to our bloke. He sticks to 2000m on a quick back-up, and he is drawn well to get a nice spot in running. He is a massive price, and I am happy to speck him each-way.
