Pretty keen on (11) Viviane in the opener, who was scratched from a much harder race at Flemington to run here. Her form just stands head and shoulders above anything else- beaten 4.4L by Dosh on debut, splitting Argentia and Invincible Caviar her next go. She’s jumped out well and with even luck should just be too good for these.

(4) The Superintendent has been backed early off the jumpouts and looks the pick of the debutants.

(9) Endlessly can push forward from the inside draw and run well first up. Both runs last prep were solid enough to be winning a Wednesday maiden soon.

(8) Unforgiven’s debut run was solid, beating home (6) Power Legend. Both have been gelded and jumped out well enough.

Not much between the top 3, happy to stay out.

Another tough maiden. (2) Extreme Emotion started favourite on debut in a fairly good maiden and ran okay for 3rd after box seating. Gets up to 1300m which may help.

Forgive (5) Luna Cat’s first up run on a heavy track after racing wide. Her debut run last prep was good and if she’s come out of the first up run okay she can be competitive.

(9) Press For Victory found the 1000m too short on debut. Gets quickly to 1300m but did look like she needed it.

Fairly low race but (9) Regal Valour doesn’t have many convictions. His debut run was quite good at Hamilton over 1200m, working home well in the fastest last 400/200m of the race. The horse behind him, Miss Field, was coming out of a very strong maiden behind Spinning so I think it’s decent enough form. By So You Think, the 1500m looks ideal and he draws well.

(7) Celtic Glory drops heavily in class after being beaten 10.9L by Fangirl at Flemington on Derby Day. The first up run was just fair but her best run at the end of last prep when 3.4L off Royalzel would go very close to winning this.

(10) Subversive was okay first up over a mile. Have to think she’ll be much fitter from that and the winner of that race, The Nephew, goes okay.

The favourite (1) Around The Horn looks more than short enough first up off 405 days, which was a Murray Bridge maiden win. He’s jumped out well but 1400m is as short as he’ll want it.

(5) Schuhbeck was good late first up and progressed nicely 2nd up, leading all the way over this T/D. Expect him to roll forward again and be hard to run down.

(4) Jolting found the 1200m too sharp first up but comes out of the best form line, beaten 2.25L by Lowanna Magic in a bm70. He maps well midfield, one off the fence and this is easier. Surprised he isn’t shorter.

Backing Jolting, saving Schuhbeck.

Tip: (4) Jolting- $6.50 at Ladbrokes

Competitive race. (4) Brenlyn’s Trooper is consistent but has never been past 1200m. He was good late first up here over 1100m and the form around Curran last prep reads well.

(2) Altai Ranger’s best would see him very hard to beat. First up off 8 weeks last prep he wasn’t far off Pintoff which reads well, and the win over Cordilla in bm84 grade would win this. If he’s ready to go, he’ll be hard to run down.

(5) Vongole will get back and hit the line again. He’s a fair enough price if he gets things to suit, although 1400m is a query.

(9) Ruby Street should be ridden cold from the wide gate which I think suits. She was okay in a dash home last start but her best runs are when saved for one last crack at them.

Tip: (9) Ruby Street- $5.00 at Bet365

(1) Ocean Heart can bounce back here in a low race. She carried plenty of weight last start in a stronger race when well respected at $4.60. She was beaten 7L but the winner won by 4.25L, so she wasn’t too far away from the placings. With that 2400m run under her belt she should be primed for this and Maher/Eustace will have her spot on.

(5) High Commission started $41 against Ocean Heart and had every chance, finished 0.5L off her, meets her worse at the weights, yet is shorter in the market here. He has won a bm58 since but got every favour on speed there and this is harder.

(6) Bazini drops back from 3100m behind Heberite who is a Jericho Cup chance. The run prior at Geelong over 2400m was just fair but does tie in with Ocean Heart.

(13) Universal Lady has found a great race. She started $2.90 in a good race last start won by Duchess Of Dorset, who was backed off the map in the last race at Flemington and ran very well. Prior to that she ran on well for 2nd to Just Jake who goes around in the bm78. The wide draw isn’t ideal but with the right run she looks hardest to beat.

(14) My Yankee Girl finished well to win on debut and was good late again at Ballarat last start. Up to 1100m looks good and she’s got upside.

(6) Finesse Tess could be the value. She’s run 2nd at every first up run she’s had and draws barrier one here. If she can ping the lids and lead, she’ll take some running down.

Universal Lady has come out likely due to the wide gate. Leaves an open race but something 1×3 on Finesse Tess.

Tip: (6) Finesse Tess- $18.00/5.00 at Bet365

Betting Strategy: 0.25/0.75 units E/W Finesse Tess

Trent’s interest in the thoroughbred started out as a spark with Black Caviar, became a flame with Winx, and has now intensified into a burning obsession with Arcadia Queen. He started out throwing loose change on random trifectas at the pub, but it wasn’t long before he was watching replays and looking at sectionals, weights and markets. Trent specializes in Victorian racing and hopes his first winner as an owner is just around the corner.
