Canterbury Racing Tips: Friday, November 12th

Tim Geers picks out his two best bets on Friday night’s card at Canterbury.

Sydney night racing returns to Canterbury on Friday evening with eight races on a Heavy 9 track.

Some of the fields have been decimated with scratchings but Tim Geers has done his best to pick out a couple of best bets from the meeting.

The rail is in the 3m position, with on-pace typically heavily favoured at Canterbury.

We’re betting in Race 2 and Race 5 on the card.

Interested in the returning (12) Marooniyah for Team Hawkes and Tommy Berry. She had two runs in her first preparation, beaten on debut here at Canterbury before sitting three-wide the trip when 5th behind King Of Sparta. That’s a strong form reference for a race like this. Her recent trial was her best bit of work to date, she was very impressive putting a space on her rivals. Expect they roll forward from the wide gate and she should take some beating if she handles the track.

(8) Comme Bella Fille started a touch over even money over this track and distance last start and didn’t get a whole lot go her way. She suffered a bit of interference round the turn and also lost a plate during the run. She won over 2100m third up last prep so she should be ready to go tonight and draws the inside gate for Tommy Berry.

(2) Monsieur Sisu looks a touch over the odds at $12. He should be one of the leaders here and he gets his preferred track conditions with heavy ground. Has three wins at the track and distance, all of which were on rain-affected ground.

Tim Geers

A trip to Hong Kong quickly had Tim hooked to the racing caper, maintaining the best place anywhere in the world on a Wednesday night is Happy Valley. He holds a strong interest in the Hong Kong form, along with the metropolitan racing in Sydney and Melbourne. He’s a fan of dry tracks, Zac Purton and takes particular interest in identifying patterns in the form. Tim wears many hats, juggling the roles of form analyst, jockey manager and racehorse owner.
