Gold Coast Racing Tips: Saturday, March 13th

Gold Coast hosts Queensland racing this Saturday with nine wet races for the club to get through. Joshua Reed has gone over the form and found a couple of winners over the course of the day.

GoldCoast

Gold Coast is the venue for racing in Queensland this Saturday and it looks to be a wet ‘n’ wild affair.

The hightlight of the day is the 2yo Jewel followed by the 3yo Jewel, both worth $500,000.

There has been plenty of rain in the lead up and more scheduled on race day, we will be lucky to get through the entire card.

Joshua Reed has assessed the races and he has had a couple of small bets throughout, with his best in Race 7.

I think we can nail a good one early here at massive each-way odds.

(5) Tardis goes on top for me here after a sound return at Doomben last month. She travelled well in the race, but the leader was too good dictating the pace with a fast tempo and due to the slight bias in the wet, he was too good. Our girl come home well and just peaked a touch late in the piece. She is no stranger to running well in the wet and she has also done it in better grade, running third at Rosehill last preparation on a soft 7. The Nicconi mare will drop 3.5kg from the last run thanks to Leah Kilner’s claim and she has raced well at this track and distance previously. We just have to contend with an awkward draw, but if she can get into a nice rhythm, she is going to look the goods at the price!

(3) Raging Pole is another who can run a bold race at decent each-way odds. He is returning from a freshen up after a solid 2 length win at Toowoomba. He has run well on the heavy in the past in better grades than this, so it won’t be a shock to see him in the finish of this one.

(12) Pull Anchor is the best of the rest, but she does have her work cut out for her.

Tip: (5) Tardis $19.20/$5.50 E/W

This race has a lot of pace in it and this girl’s best rating has been on a heavy track, so I expect her to match or beat that rating here. (8) Je Suis Belle has been freshened since her 0.2 of a length defeat at the hands of Howwonderfullifeis at Doomben. Before that at the Sunshine Coast, she was too good winning by 2 lengths after a nice ride by Bobby El-Issa. She gets him back aboard here and she is drawn well to be able to stalk this hot speed. She is one on-pace horse who won’t mind the speed being on and with a senior jockey aboard mixed with her fitness edge, she is over the odds.

(3) Kylease is a mare in form and gets the ideal draw out of barrier 1. She won’t like being bothered in front, but she is fit and will like the sting out of the ground. If she can get to the lead without being bothered, she is a top chance.

(12) Skins is one of the better horses in this race though I don’t want to bank on him winning this being first-up on a heavy track. It will not surprise me if he performs well but he can do it without my money.

Going against the favourite here with a horse on the quick back-up.

(3) I’ve Gotta Nel raced last weekend at this track over the 1100m and he won in impressive fashion by 2.5 lengths. Before that he fought on well finishing 1.6 lengths off Invincible Al in town. Our bloke has already met the favourite this preparation where Sugar Boom was victorious by 6.6 lengths at this track and distance on a soft 5. The Sequalo gelding will have a 5kg swing on her here and on track conditions which will suit him better. Happy to be with him here and he is a chance to knock off the favourite.

(1) Sugar Boom ticks a lot of boxes, but he is yet to win on anything worse than a soft 5. There is no doubting his quality and his SP profile is brilliant. She hasn’t raced since that Quality race over this track and distance over two months ago, but she comes to hand quite quickly.

(2) Racecourse Road will have some work to do from out wide to give this race a crack but there is no doubting his talent.

I am not overly keen on this race and it looks a very weak stakes race with a few different form lines.

(7) Wapiti goes on top for me with is 100% top 3 record over the 1800m. His run last start was credible whilst leading, but he will need to step it up a notch if he wants to turn the tables on his rivals. One thing he does possess is a liking for rain affected tracks which he gets here with no weight. His last two runs on heavy going were both wins in a Quality at this track and distance as well as a Group 3 at the Sunshine Coast. He will be in his favoured position throughout the run, and I think he can finally break through this preparation.

(4) Matowi will be an improver after some excuses last start. He loves this distance range and won’t mind the sting out of the ground. Beware of the Waller runners, especially with three in the race.

(2) Ligulate is in some good form but he has struggled on the wet in the past.

I think this market is all wrong but at the same time I am taking a massive risk.

(2) Vanna Girl goes on top and is coming back from a preparation of racing with group company horses and you can go back to the end of her previous preparation to find a race like this that she competed in. She generally races well here at the Gold Coast but the big question mark around her is can she handle a wet surface? 1400m seems like an ideal starting point for her and we have to assume that she will handle the conditions if the trainers keep her running on race morning. She is the best horse in this race on quality and that might be enough to get her home.

(1) The Candy Man is a cult figure who failed to live up to his own hype last preparation when he travelled down over the border for some challenging races. He loves the wet and has a good fresh record and like his counterpart, he has experience at the Gold Coast. We need to see him return to be a betting proposition, and I hope he does return to his best.

(5) Socialising faces her toughest test since she failed in the Nudgee Stakes. I don’t think the wet track will benefit her at all, so I think she should be wider in the market.

Another horse who has had a lot of hype is this girl from up north who is a deserved favourite.

(7) Sweet Dolly is going for four wins in a row after a comprehensive win over Glorious Ruby and co at the Sunshine Coast last start. Based on that run alone, she looks like the sting out of the track won’t worry her and that she will run out the 1200m no worries. Her draw is okay, but her gate speed is superior to her rivals, so I expect her to lead comfortably.

(8) Mishani Enchanted looks over the odds a touch and with speed drawn underneath her, she should be able to get into a comfortable midfield position. Staying at 1200m suits and she is fighting fit. She may be lucky enough to make up one of the placings.

(1) Gemelon Bolt is the best of the rest.

This is a cracker of a race with multiple chances.

(4) Jadentom goes on top after what should have been three wins last preparation. She opened up his preparation with a tough win in the Weetwood at any old odds before heading into town and making a mess of them after travelling wide. She again was wide throughout when going down less than a length to Neidorp in the Spirit of Boom Classic. In all three runs she rated very high and gets a chance to open up her campaign with another win. She has an immaculate record first-up and she loves the 1200m which will work in her favour from the inside gate. Her one go on the heavy rated high so I expect her to be hard to beat here.

 (9) Gem of Scotland returned well after a long lay-off and I am looking forward to seeing her again here second-up. Her one win on the heavy she won by 6.5 lengths, so she should be okay here though her draw means she may have to do some early work to get into an ideal position.

(7) Chivargo is fighting fit and maps to get a nice lead here. Her form on the wet isn’t too bad but she will have to step up big time to win here.

Siding with the talented (13) Miami Fleiss who looks to make it three in a row after easy wins at the Sunshine Coast and Doomben. In both starts she has been well ridden by Michael Rodd and she won both races by a combined 10.8 lengths which is amazing. This is her hardest test to date, but she gives every indication that she won’t have any issues handling the ground and she will likely push forward from the draw. This will be the most pressure she has faced in any of her races, so tread carefully.

(8) Kisukano is no stranger to pressure nor a wet track though she may give away too much of a start from her barrier. If they decide to push up and settle closer, it will enhance her chances and she then becomes a big chance of knocking off the favourite.

(2) Mass Destruction looks the best of the rest.

No confidence in the last here.

(8) Let’s Party Marty is the one I want to be with as he is much better than what he showed last start. He is awkwardly drawn here which may pose some issues initially but if he can get into a nice spot, he looks as though he will handle a heavy track based on his past. The step up to 1300m is ideal and with fitness under his belt, he isn’t the worst at each-way odds.

(9) Ventura Ocean was very impressive first-up and by just going off the information we do have, he looks as though he is unsuited to wet tracks which is what he faces here. I plan on watching him carefully.

(1) Cloak should run a bold race first-up and I look forward to seeing his progress this preparation.

Tip: (8) Let’s Party Marty $14.00/$4.00 E/W
